I know in another thread the question came up where to buy furniture for some of the newbies buying a home in Sun City and coming in from out of town. We had cause to spend yesterday afternoon out and about, going to three different store we have bought from in the past.

It was a fascinating afternoon and way enlightening. Perhaps unfairly we did The American Furniture Warehouse first and it was awesome. We need an entire house of furniture and while it's a rental, we have found trying to piecemeal it with odds and ends just isn't practical. Renters pay up for quality and so we decided to buy new. Their prices were outstanding as we found things that fit our budget and were of the size and style we were looking for.

From there we went to Mor Furniture and the Room Store. We've bought several pieces from both of them but were terribly disappointed at what we found and the prices. Odd, because they've both been very good in the past.

Today we'll stop by Ashley Furniture and see what they have. Since they changed their policy to have product on hand, it's more attractive. The area we weren't thrilled with were the bedroom sets. Everybody has massive oversized sets and we are looking for clean and simple headboards. dresser and box spring and mattress. We'll try a couple of the free standing mattress stores and see what they have.

    Interesting.

I like Ashley for cheap couches. We go through them pretty fast....we buy them for the dog sigh.

You make me smile F. The last couch we bought was at Ashley and it has the power lift which allows the girls to crawl up and let them sprawl with us. Cool because it's just a two cushion, rather than your normal three cushion where the center doesn't raise.

If I won the lottery I'd buy all my furniture at the Amish Store or Stone Creek. Now I have a mix of oak, Amish and family antiques.

Did you buy that rental house you were considering or are you just costing out the furnishings?

In 2007 I bought several pieces of furniture at Ashleys.

At that time there was a 99 dollar furniture store down the road from Ashleys on Bell. It's gone now. I bought several pieces of furniture from them.

I need a new recliner and plan to buy it from Furniture Solutions in the Greenway Shopping Center. Their furniture is made in the USA and they have a choice of many fabrics.

During the last few years I have replaced all my appliances. Bought them at the appliance store next to Safeway on Bell/Boswell. My AC has also been replaced.

Went to the Ashley store on Bell Road today and was stunned. We started with mattress and they had an Ashley brand for a great price. It got better because we got another 25% off those numbers. We learned from the first rental we had that good mattresses were important. Just as an aside, we stopped at Mattress Firm in Sun City before we went to Ashley's and we got both of the mattresses at Ashley's for what we would have paid at Mattress Firm for one. Just saying.

We had found most of our choices the day before at American Furniture, but had bought nothing. So we started looking and we were amazed at both the quality and the prices. It was a bit challenging because their pricing was strange. Seems a short time back the store was part of a franchise operator's and was bought out and now is a corporate store.

They are in the process of retagging everything, so the prices all over the map. The manager assured us we would like the prices he would give us as we picked out items. We were skeptical, but started searching for things and he was spot on his word. The prices blew us away and we bought much of it on the spot.

We still have several pieces at American Warehouse, but I would guess we bought 75% of it Ashley's. It was that good. If anyone is looking, just ask for Rich the manager and I think you'll be delighted with the prices and choices.
