I was checking out Parks & Suns and I couldn't find what days of the week are collection days. Our friends who winter there indicate tell us it is picked up twice a week. They have a garden home/condo in phase three. Is it the same in all of Sun City (twice a week pickup) and what day(s) is it picked the garbage collected?
I'm in Phase 2 and it's Tuesday & Friday for me. The 2nd & 4th Wednesday is recycle pickup. I have a nice box for newspaper. For other items I use a cardboard box because they were taking the good box. Now they take the cardboard box. I have several because I often shop on line.
I did write "Do Not take" in several places. Both in English and Spanish! Actually is is a good way for me to get rid of boxes.
These boxes have definitely been recycled. A friend of ours got them off Craig's list for their move earlier this year. If we can find a place to donate them to after we unpack, we will gladly do that. Otherwise, they will be recycling containers until we run out. In Seattle we have been trained to recycle everything. The recycling gets picked up every week with the garbage. It's going to be difficult to adjust to a twice a month recycling pickup.
Maybe Valley View would take boxes. They could probably be used to fill with items they give to people. Give them a call.
Three good things about Sun City: Put something out curbside with a free sign on it and it will be gone in the blink of an eye...including empty packing boxes. And for reference purposes, if you plan on doing your own landscaping, the boxes are a must have for putting tree and shrub trimmings in them. Parks and Son won't pick up stuff just lying loosely, so the boxes are really handy to have on hand. When we first moved here from Minnesota, we were stunned, there was almost no recycling going on. It's far better today with the twice monthly pickup by Parks, There are other options and the one most of use is the Lion's recycle bins behind the shopping center on 99th and 103rd (there's another in Phase 1). There used to be one behind the Safeway on Bell Road, but that one is gone. It's also good to know if you need boxes for those loose trimmings, there's usually some good ones not broken down yet at 99th Ave. Finally (we've talked about this before), but Park's and Son's is like the 9th Wonder of the World. Visitors always are in awe of how the pickup crew runs the streets. I mean literally runs their entire route. The reason is, they get 8 hours of pay whether they get done in 4, 6 or 8 hours. It's "piece work" at it's finest. Ya gotta love this place eh?
Habitat for Humanity is just east of the 101 and on the north side of the street in a small strip mall. We've brought lots of stuff there for them to use or resell. I've never seen the thrift stores carry those kinds of items, space is always a problem for them.
