I saw in another section some of you guys were talking about your dogs and dog parks and stuff.

I haven't had a dog since leash and scoop laws were enacted and dog parks became a thing (worked too many hours and lived in too small a place, so Mom and Dad, in the big house with the fenced in yard inherited my girl named Brandy (was not a hardship, that dog was treated better than my sister and I ever were :))).

Now, after settling in, we will have time and there are always great dogs that need homes (I'm sure the cats won't mind).

So what are the rules (written and unwritten) that a newbie to the dog park would need to know? Are dog parks free? How do you tell a good dog park from a bad dog park? What should you look for in a dog park?

And about veterinarians - we love our vet. She is trained in emergency medicine and runs her practice as a 10 hour a day, 7 days a week, no appointment needed, first come first served shop. We were one of her first clients when she branched out on her own and wouldn't take our two cats anywhere else. When we move, we will miss her, but the kittens will not (they aren't big fans of car rides or veterinarians).
I don't expect to find someone as eclectic and awesome as Dr. Trushiem, but I know there are vets who will be as fantastic to Judge and Jurie as Cheri has been - - - I just need to find them.

    Vet recommendations anyone?

Dog parks all have their own rules and they are almost always posted as you enter the park. Really basic stuff, common sense, but them we know that is sometimes in short supply.

When we moved here in 2003, we tried a couple of different vets. We were always stunned at how expensive they were compared to back in Minnesota. Then one day a new vet from Colorado moved in and he was a godsend. Charlie Sink had retired but hated it. He had been a fill-in vet at a couple on clinics and was horrified at how they functioned and what they charged.

He had a small clinic on the corner of Bell Road and Lindgren but has since outgrown it. He moved about a mile and half West on Bell Road, but his practice has gotten so big, he's not taking new customers (for now). The last time we were there he told us the walk-in trade was causing him to fall behind on his regular's and he had no choice. He did say he was hoping to find more docs and techs to be able to handle more traffic. The problem is he is pretty picky about his help and meeting his standards.

It doesn't surprise me he's as successful as he is, he is second to none and he doesn't charge an arm and a leg.

Thanks for all the info. On my last visit, I noticed a vet clinic and "lodge" on Santa Fe. Anyone have any experience with them?

We've used "Tink" in the past and she does a great job. One of the hardest working people I have ever met. I've always hated boarding our boys or girls so finding someone to move into the house is always way better for us.

Thank you. I'll be saving this for future reference. Well be wanting to travel so the pet sitting sounds great. Of course we'll want the best of care for our little ones also.

    Yes, Thank you.

We have a great young lady who comes and stays with Judge and Jurie when we are gone, and we have been wondering if we would be able to find someone in Sun City.

I may have said this before, but moving these guys and how they will settle in is one of my biggest concerns.
