This kind of is for all of you who have had success with a Realtor, tradesperson or anyone you do business with. Word of mouth is a way of life in Sun City. We share that information to help those who are looking and to avoid hooking up with some of the less talented folks out there. Don't be shy about naming names eh.

Careful with that phrase B. It has an entirely different meaning these days. :glee:

Which is exactly why I love reading books from different decades. Language, meanings and even adaptation of new words are ever present and fun to stumble across.

In this case though, hooking up was probably the wrong terminology...especially if you are from CA :sour:

So only Calif uses that term? As if!

I think it's all the myth perpetrated early on by the Beach Boys when they started singing California Girls. Since those days of the 3 D's (drugs, debauchery and dumb blondes) the image of the cutie in the convertible and tiny bikini's has left us poor tired old men lusting after West Coast hotties.

Hence, I'm willing to bet that's where the term "hooking up" came from. But then again, my folks dropped me on my head as a child and I have never been the same since.

Sounds like I may not be the only one dropped on their head as a child.

You do know when Welk came to Sun City and played at the Sun Bowl (in the late 60's) he sold the place out with a reported 7,500 people.

Just when I thought the average age of Sun City residents was going down. :playful: I remember my folks watching every week when it was originally on. I never acquired the taste for champagne music, I guess.

Welk has an interesting, American-Dream life story.

    Thanks for the link, Cynthia.

The only thing I remember of Lawrence Welk was - it was required viewing when we went to my grandma's house. The two who could cut a rug were Cissy and Bobby, right? And the Christmas shows, they had some grand Christmas shows.

You would have seen Hee Haw if you were at our house....but I guess that was a 70's thing, grandma wasn't a fan. I never new why, but she wouldn't watch it when she was visiting.
