I don't see ever leaving Sun City. I could envision owning other properties around the country I could visit and maybe one in the Caribbean. San Diego would be great, the weather doesn't get any better than that. The reality is you'd need to win the powerball to be able to afford to live there. I can think of two or three things I would do within Sun City that would make it an even better place to live; but that's another topic for another time.
We used to do a lot of cruises, it was a must to get out of Minnesota in January or February. There's no better value for your vacation dollar than a cruise; kind of like Sun City only you stay on land. Funny you say that Peg: we met some folks on a Holland America line who were doing just that; living on a cruise ship for a year. Ouch, 10 days was more than enough for me. On sad note, I saw a headline today where 9 people took an air excursion while on a cruise in Alaska and the plane went down. Bummer.
Cruises are no my thing but I did do the Alaska one in 1998. Make sure you go on the ones that go inside Glacier Bay, that was the best part of the trip for me.
If your going to Alaska, do it soon. The weather there, and around here is ridiculous. I'm looking out the office windows right now at mountains that have no snow covered peaks. It's sad, we hear people coming back from their cruise to Alaska raving about the fantastic 80 degree weather. It should not be 80 degrees all summer long in Alaska. But there is no global warming, right? I love cruises - the more sea days the better. As a matter of fact, right before we make the permanent move to SC next spring (yes, the date keeps getting moved up) we are going on a 19 night Ft Lauderdale to Seattle Panama Canal cruise. 50th bday (a little late), 60th bday (a little early), and retirement gift all in one. And to answer the original question - if money were no object, I'm not sure where I would live.
Congrats on the decision to pull the plug sooner rather than later V. Once we found Sun City and bought a house, my life changed. My best earning years were in front of me *55 to 60), but I saw no percentage in staying on the treadmill when I could kick back and enjoy a whole different way of life. But really, 19 days on a cruise ship? Dang. we did 14 day'ers a couple of times and it was like an eternity...and we loved to cruise.
