Full time and part time residents

In another thread BPearson said, "...when folks get back from their summer break (late in October)."

I understand the context of BP's statement - get the ball rolling with a meeting when the largest number of residents are actually here.

But here I am, not yet a resident and that brought up a question - " How does the community handle the different focus of the full time vs part time residents?"

Pretty good V_ though there are some folks who get testy because most of the odds and ends repair gets done during the summer. It makes sense because there is less traffic at the centers (other than the pools, which get the most use during the hot summer months). The good news is we have so many facilities and amenities, even when 1 is down, there always others to go to.

The harder nut to crack is for the retailers. The summer months can get pretty lean for them and we see those who struggle to get by usually take the gas after winter visitors have left.

One of the questions we almost always are asked is: What is the percentage of owners that leave for the summer? There is no empirical data, so it's always just a wag (wild -assed guess). My contention has always been around 30%, but I suspect that number fluctuates as the owners age or as we get more permanent one home owners buying into the community.

Just for the record; there are some folks who get just plain ****y over seasonal visitors. There's also a very small minority who get there swim suits in a knot when younger people are using "their pool or workout facilities." Seems if they don't have something to complain about, they aren't happy (go figure that one out).

Interesting topic. I guess I've not understood why there would be animosity toward part-year residents. The last I heard you pay the same fees a full time resident pays but use the facilities and infrastructure a fraction of the time. Maybe I'm just sensitive to this sentiment since we plan to snowbird.

Hey Mullet - I guess it's like BP says "...if they don't have something to complain about..."

Yeah. I feel like complaining about complaining but I'm going to restrain myself. ;-)

    :)

    Morning,
The only way I could be more happy about knowing there are 7 rec centers was if I was there to enjoy them right now.

There is no sweeter sound than the after burners kicking in on a F16! Go Air Force!
I was in the Navy in my younger days, but now volunteer with Civil Air Patrol... gotta love those jets and our brave pilots.
Go hug a soldier, marine, pilot, sailor, etc., or at least shake their hand.

March 19-20, I may have to plan my spring training visit around those dates if possible. ;)

Okay, I'll wait for boos and egg throwing, but the noise from the new F35s is not pleasing when they are in the full training mode. I think it was released that there are more than 25 F35s now and there will be 144 at the base when they are fully implemented. It also seems that on cloudy days that the noise is really amplified.

They are amazing to watch and only the occasional roar is awesome. I guess for the same reason I don't like the constant roar of a unbaffled motorcycle. There are also those who get the noise from the frequent trains along Grand Avenue.

The March Air Show is spectacular but we get a show several times a week!

I understand the jet noise and why, I struggle with the fly-bys after 9 pm when they come roaring over-head, one after the other. We usually walk the girls then and it's okay until they fire up the thrusters and blow you off the streets. And the one thing I won't be doing is putting a "I Love Jet Noise" bumper sticker on my golf car. I get it, you love freedom, but do you really love jet noise? How about those idiots with their car stereo's blasting you as you drive down Bell Road?

Enough about our Sun City challenges. Here's a column I did a few years back when I was writing a blog on the backside of the museum. It was called C.O.P.'s.

Yes Bill, I do love the sound of freedom.
We used to live in the flight path of Moffett Field and the constant transports and jet fighters could be deafening at times, especially when the big C5s lumbered in. I used to call my better half out to see them fly over, after the first few times of her saying, "So?", I decided then that not everyone was as excited about them as I was. ;)

With that said, low level fly-bys after 21:00 might not be so welcome all the time.

I hate the sound of car boom boxes and those scoots with the loud pipes can be annoying, but there are times I'm OK with them. But the most annoying IMHO is barking/yapping dogs that won't stop and their owners that ignore them.

I own a yapper. I swear she barks at wind. Bruce said owners ignore them but it might be they have given up. Yappers are like kids who talk a lot, its hard to get them to stop. And I don't know if you really want the owners to correct them or not. If they did you would hear... yap-yap, shut-up, yap-yap, be quiet, yap-yap, what are you barking at?, yap-yap. Double the noise.
