What Section of Sun City did you choose and why?

I'm just curious if most people's choice of a section was driven by a particular home (they found the home they wanted first which dictated the section) or whether they decided on a section first and then found a home within that particular section. Essentially, how did you end up in the section you are living?

I just found the home I liked.
    It was in section II.
I didn't know the location was perfect until after I moved in.
    Very close to my church.
Half way between Frys & Safeway.
Within about a mile of Bell RC & Sundail.

I'm asked this one a lot by people, especially visitors who are thinking about buying in Sun City. My folks lived in Phase 3, which has the newest of homes and my dad was quite proud of that fact. The funny thing was once we bought in Phase 2, he often told me he wished he was in 2 because of the more central location.

We could have bought in any one of the phases; our first goal was to find a house that fit our wants, something larger than the average 1400-1500 Sun City home. We identified 3 or 4 models that fit our parameters and the bulk were located in phases 2 and 3.

Great story; I came searching for homes one weekend and our realtor showed me and my parents 20 homes. The one we ended up buying was in Phase 2 and my dad had originally told the realtor I wouldn't be interested in it. It was a Castille with a 700 sq. ft. addition across the back of the house. My wife wasn't with me, but she was flying into Vegas and we were driving up to meet her.

My dad had shot a video of the house and the Stardust hotel provided us with a place for us to watch it. Hardly the same as seeing it in person, but in the end she liked it enough to move forward. It was a tense weekend in Vegas as we put a bid in only to have my realtor tell us the price had jumped $10,000. The listing realty company has since gone out of business for any number of improprieties but we fought threw the foolishness and bought it in spite of their shenanigans.

We love the location and have changed the house a little each year. I'm still a huge fan of phase 2, but the reality is no matter where you live in Sun City, it's better than almost anywhere else in the free world (at least in my humble opinion). And, let me say, the size of the property is less important than the fact you can raise your blinds every morning to an explosion of sunshine and a million things to do with your day.

How does it get any better than that ??????

We inherited our house in phase one, rented it for years, then started coming to Sun City every winter. It's one of the originals built in 1960, we are now the 2nd owners, and has only 950 Sq ft. As we spend more and more time in Sun City we have done a complete renovation of the inside, removed walls and changed just about everything (this was forced on us when we had a water leak that trashed the floors, cabinets , interior doors etc) . With a generous check from insurance and an equal investment by us we transformed this tiny house into a very comfortable home. When we decided we would need to add on to accommodate our increased time in AZ we briefly thought about moving, but found that number one, we love our neighborhood, it's convenient to shopping, and Rec centers (walking distance to Oakmont), the lots are larger than some later phases, and the concrete block construction lends itself to just about any kind of renovation, addition, or remodel you want to do. We will be adding a garage, bedroom, bath, and laundry this fall, giving us the perfect 3 BR, 2 bath house we want, and for far less than buying in another phase. Don't ignore the original 1960 homes, they are very well built and adaptable. And the mature trees and landscaping gives an historic feel to the neighborhood.

Well said A. I drive into phase 1 often when rolling lawn bowls at Fairway and love some of the early construction. Without question, there is better value south of Grand and if one is so inclined, remodeling can give you the home of your dreams. And, it really is fun planning the renovation and enjoying it once finished. Of course the bugger is if you are living there during...ouch.
