At the age of 64 and as a retired software engineer, I see to it that my mind is still active and being challenged. Every morning I solve crossword puzzles while having my breakfast. I really keep working and working on it. I have a book of crosswords that I keep in my bag every time I travel.
At the age of ? and a retired librarian, I do a lot of research on the computer. Both for myself and for friends who are computer illiterate. And there are many of those in Sun City. I am the Social Committee for my church group and condo association and volunteer at the Visitor Center and SC Posse. I attend many seminars on a variety of subjects. Also, I go to pool excercise class twice a week and one time just for fun.
I'm an avid reader of both fiction and non fiction. On the computer I enjoy trivia games, crosswords and card games. I watch very little network TV but enjoy many DVDs ordered through the Maricopa County Library system. Duties on various committees keep me busy both mentally & physically. I'm not a swimming pool person but I do enjoy the indoor walking track and bowling. There's so much to do in Sun City that you have no one to blame but yourself if you are bored!
I love both crossword and sudoku. I do them to relax while having my morning coffee. Actually they're quite addicting.
I agree! I'm hooked on puzzles. I found a good site that offers crosswords from USA Today and I can download them for free at freedailycrosswords.com
What keeps me mentally active is dealing with Sun City Issues ! ! like the present issue of EPCOR Water Increase ! ! My water bill will go from $35.00 to approx. $75.00 per month with the new consolidation issue going on... We must all contact the commissioners office to not allow this increase to happen ! ! SAMPLE letter - This consolidation would cause an unfair hardship to the residents of Sun City. It would essentially force Sun City to subsidize the costs of newer developments that were built in recent years. It should not be allowed. An 89% increase is unconscionable. We are a retirement community where many of us are on fixed incomes. Sun City paid for the building of its own sewer system many years ago. Since that time, many communities have been added. I clearly remember when the first house was built in Anthem, standing in the middle of the desert all by itself. I never dreamed that I would be expected to pay for their sewer system many years later. I realize the water company would find it convenient to have us all on the same rate, but that is totally unfair and should not be allowed. This expense should have been paid by the builders of these new communities or perhaps by the purchasers of these new homes. The water company should find another way to make ends meet without putting it onto the backs of senior citizens long retired on fixed incomes. ***EPCOR noted in their ACC response they have projected additional capital improvement costs for the Sun City District of $9.3M over the next five years. If a full consolidation were to take place, Sun City users would be required to pay an additional $22.5M over the noted five-year period. This equates to subsidizing other district costs in the amount of $13.2M. We cannot and should not be required to subsidize other districts for poor planning and choices. Please - deny this EPCOR raising our Sun City Water Rate - This is absolutely nonsense ! !
