In another thread, Fiona asked about the new RCSC marketing website. Here is the link for it.

It's clean and easy to follow and has 3 video's that are all pretty good. Based on how the pages are hit, we will be adding or deleting as we go. I personally want to see more interactive features come into play and hopefully within the next 3 months that will unfold.

I just spent 15 minutes at website.
    It's chock full of information.

It was fun seeing people, including you.

I think I saw one of my neighbors.

I can understand how you would like the site if you already live there, you see people you know etc., but here one outsider impression. One of the things I continue to wonder about Sun City is how will it be for a single person moving there alone (which will be me). I know many people live there after a partner dies but they didn't arrive there alone. The website style is bright and cheery but the interviews show couples or they use "us and "we" when they talk about moving to Sun City. Most of the click on photos show couples, except one of women shopping. A few do show people in clubs alone doing things. Maybe we are in the minority so no one cares to market to us, but it would be good to show some feeling of inclusion. Does anyone moves there alone? I wonder. I would like to hear an interview from someone who did. I have moved alone to other states many times in my life, so I have experience with it generally. But I was young then and as you all well know, my concerns are different now.

Just to add one thing, I've heard snarky posts at other places, not on this website, that single women moving alone to retirement communities are thought to be trying to find a husband. I don't know if that is the reason for ignoring to mention singles. I don't know about others but I'm just hoping to find a friend or two.

Great comment C and you are right on as far as how we portray the community. That said, there is a whole other story and one we need to show (thanks for the reminder). Lots of single people buy in Sun City and their best option in finding that companionship is (as you noted), the clubs. So i'm clear, those aren't just single people in them, but often men and women who do things while their spouse is doing something else.

I've told the story often: Meeker saw clubs dying in 1965 and had a drawing for the largest color TV he could find. Rumor has it 10 people were in the room and once word spread residents started flocking to clubs. In his memoirs he said he never held another drawing of that magnitude, but what people found at the clubs was way better than a television set: "instead of a big prize, people found friendship and companionship."

Again, Cynthia, thank you for pointing this shortcoming out. Knowing boomers are our target market, we also must be mindful that many of them are single and looking for that perfect place to live.

Thanks B. It actually seems like the perfect place for singles to move and find friends their own age. Like you, I think there could be many of us single boomers moving there. No one really markets for it, from what I have seen, and I've been looking about five years now. Sun City could be the first one. :joyous:

I moved here in 2007 after my husband died and I retired.
I have never felt alone or isolated. Everyone is friendly.
However, you do have to put forth some effort yourself.

For the first 2 months I lived with my son and & family
while I looked for a condo in Sun City. I had already researched
every place in Arizona for seniors. SC was my favorite.

I belong to several clubs and am active in my Condo Association.
In fact just today we had lunch at Chang Lees that I arranged.

I could never be happier than I am now.
    Family, friends, neighbors.
Who could ask for anything more?

Thanks Peg for sharing. There's no better testimonial than those words about why Sun City is the right choice for people...married or single.
