All of us baby boomers (young and old) remember that hit song Aquarius (Let the sunshine in) by the Fifth Dimension. However, if you need a refresher here's the youtube link for it.. The refrain is a constant about letting the sunshine in; though I think this more has to do about some sort of age of enlightenment. Perhaps more so than ever, all of us in Sun City should be singing those words with vigor (or as JFK used to say, vigah). Anyway, as my mind runs amuck, this brief flashback in time is all about a quick reminder of an event of enormous magnitude coming up tomorrow (Thursday November 7) at the Bell Recreation center. We will be throwing the proverbial switch on our newly installed Solar projects. It will begin at 10 am and if memory serves me the Mascot from the Phoenix Suns (get the connection?) will be there. What's cool is you will then be able to stop by the farmers market and see what that's all about as well. While I had some reservations about the solar project as we were battling our way through it, clearly for the long term this will be a great investment for all of us. And what better place to do it than the Valley of the Sun; so many people outside the walls think we are an aging community of oldies but not so goodies...ha, little do they know. So, see you there and we can all sing..."let the sunshine."
Dang... Seems the best laid plans can go awry. Headed off to the Flipping the Switch celebration I thought was at 10 am and danged of I wasn't a hour late. The darned event was scheduled for 9 am and I flat out missed it. Just have to get my arms around the whole idea of not trying to remember and check to make sure. The oldest rule in the book when writing something is check and double check dates, times and places. The Farmers Market is still going on though.
It will be great when the RCSC website has a new more user friendly calendar for quickly double checking dates & times for events & meetings. The present calendar on the main page has the wrong dates for the November Member Exchange & RCSC Board Meetings. We can't have you missing too many more of these important events Bill!
Too funny aggie, but they did just fine without me. After I posted this I went to my calendar from the RCSC that I had brought home and the good news is i'm not senile. Listed on my November calendar I received dated 9-26-13 were two things for the 7th: 9am Bowling and 10-2 Turn on the Switch (Bell). There may have been an updated calendar released but this was the one I had sitting on my desk at the office. I do know the communication committee has brought forth the suggestion several times that a better calendar be put in use than the one currently on the RCSC website. I also think getting the whole social media aspect going will help as well as adding a Sun City app. Time will tell eh?
As memory serves, I believe the October calendar said the monthly meeting for the Board of Directors was October 24 instead of October 31. If a calendar is inaccurate frequently, maybe it would be better to just make it disappear rather than tweak it for more friendliness. Just saying!
Hate to sound like I am predicting the future F, but if we (the RCSC) does things right in the coming months, several things regarding our websites will vastly improve. Lots of work to do yet, but I think we are on the right track. Of course talking about them and doing them are two different things eh?
I am sorry the clay club had to miss that one Farmer's Mkt due to voting in our new leadership. I would have loved to have been there for the big switch on the solar. Hope to have our tent up for next Thursday's market. We meet so many great people there.
There is a group of various vendors selling their farm goods, oils, bakery items and crafts there every Thursday from 8 to noon. Chef Jean is my personal favorite...love his French pastries.....We have the Silver clubs, ceramic clubs, wood shop fellows with their hand crafted toys for kids as well as leather and quilter crafts, and of course, the very famous Sun City Clay Club which has hand thrown and hand made pottery goods. Lots of fun to just wander through. We will be there this coming Thurs.
