You are so sweet to write this comment. I am feeling better about the crazy books and hope you will see them around Sun City!

    Do dogs get depression?

image.jpg The dog in the picture is in my care for about ten days. Lola is a 13-year old poodle mix, does not like to walk, naps a lot, eats crumbs under the table, begs for treats, rarely leaves my side, and sleeps next to my legs in bed. She makes strange sounds--almost like they are coming from the gut. Occasionally she barks.

Perhaps dogs are like people and experience depression. I see myself in Lola these days. Whenever I am finished with a writing project, it takes me a while to adjust to living without a schedule. I wander around the house, look for treats to eat, sigh, bother my husband while he's watching TV, and take lots of naps.

I imagine when Lola's peeps come home, she'll perk up. Perhaps when a great thought comes to mind that I need to write about, I'll perk up, too!

Thank you for the advice! I am going to take golf lessons starting Saturday and will try to get outside more--less sitting at a desk writing and researching. I will start a new thread since this one is almost at 5,000!

    What grows in your garden?

image.jpg If common sense seeds could blow from one yard to another or through the food we eat, it could be shared with everyone. Unfortunately, the seeds of common sense need to be planted in the womb.

    Giving away stuff

image.jpg I read an article about how to improve one's life. One suggestion by the author is to give something away (tangible stuff) every day for thirty days. I believe this would be a great challenge for all of us in Sun City. And, your children/heirs will thank you for eliminating stuff. Those who receive your castaways or generous gifts will thank you for it. Now, start looking for item number 1!

To hug or not to hug

image.jpg I didn't come from a hugging family, but I'm a hugger. However, when meeting someone for the first time, I always ask, "Are you a hugger?" If the arms come forward, I know the answer.

Do you need a push now and then?

image.jpg The older I get, the less desire I have to hurry. Being a hare most of my life, is is rather nice to be a tortoise. To think of all the things I've missed along the journey by moving too fast. The next time you are hurrying along, stop and think how much you are missing, too!

Do you miss seeing children on the streets?

image.jpg Happy Halloween. If you are like me, you have no candy waiting for someone to ring your doorbell and say, "Trick or Treat!" I can't say that I miss that experience, although I do enjoy seeing the children having fun.

Do you realize we could Trick or Treat in Sun City? I'd be happy to pass out treats to anyone who in a costume or mask rings my doorbell (before 8:00 p.m.). I think we miss out of the fun that children have by forgetting about how much fun it is to act child-like. Perhaps next year I'll put on a costume and ring a few doorbells. I'd better watch out for the Possee!

Tell me what you think of this comment?

image.jpg I do care what people think of me. I don't care to be around people who don't care what other people think of them if they are being crude, rude, or say offensive things--just because they don't care.:disturbed:

I think it's situational. I met a woman who dressed very flamboyantly and I told her it was obvious that she really had fun with her clothing. She said something about being in her nineties and not caring what is in or out of style but enjoyed putting together colors and styles that made her happy. She said she was a slave to fashion most of her life--buying designer clothing that was "in" one year and "out" the next but that when she hit her eighties she dressed for herself and loved the fun she had. She'd wished she had done that years ago. I think she found one of those examples where it was good for her to not care what others dictated in the realm of fashion and she developed her own style, had fun, and hurt no one.

    Barely surviving!

image.jpg Today, I scraped a few rocks away from a newly discovered volunteer cactus and found many babies.. I hope with sunshine, these babies will develop into a plant I can transplant later.

What is hiding beneath the "rocks" in your life today?

The older you get--the more wisdom you gain...Living it is learning it. And self-esteem also goes along with it. If one is comfortable with who they are -- it matters to themselves how they look... They are accepting of others who accept them -- as -- what they are --- as they look -- or as who they really are inside !

Beauty is only skin deep - - a kind person dresses well no matter what they wear. Kind words say ALOT !

When times are tough, my mother says, "Think happy thoughts." She's right -- it helps when we don't dwell on the negative.

    What did you learn today?

image.jpg With such great opportunities to learn through the internet, clubs, books, chatting with others, there is no reason we aren't able to learn something new every day.

What thing did you learn to day that made you say, "I wish I'd known that earlier?"

Yes, bad things can help us appreciate the good stuff in life.

image.jpg Most people do not exit this life without some bad things happening. How is it that people who have suffered many tragedies go forward and have joy in their lives? It's all about the journey and finding peace in the process of dealing with disasters. May you find a pathway to joy, peace, and happiness.
