Is your future locked behind closed doors?

Choices.jpg "When a door of happiness closes, another opens; but we look so long at the closed door we do not see the one opened for us." Helen Keller

It is easy to get caught up in memories of when things were... "When I could hike... when I could play with the grandchildren... when I could bake a chocolate cake and eat it too!

What is important is the "what isf" or "what about" or "what opportunities." Don't keep the door to your future dead bolted!

    Playing the Blame Game

2012-10-08 06.53.00.jpg When we blame someone else for their behavior, we are putting a cloud over our mind and spirit. Animals get along better than humans!

    Are you a little patient?

image.jpg A man rushed into a busy doctor's surgery and shouted, "Doctor! I think I'm shrinking!"
The doctor calmly responded, "Now, settle down. You'll just have to be a little patient."

Cup of Tea and a Good Book?

image.jpg Sounds good to me. I am fond of tea and read as much as possible. I miss the cool days of the Midwest with a fireplace going, a warm comforter, a good book and a cup of tea (or wine). However, I think about it until the thought goes away!

Do you have a tough decision to make?

image.jpg On a day-to-day basis, I make less decisions than I did when I had kids, a job, and more disposable income. However, today any decision I make that affects my life is important. I like to call upon the three-day rule: If the idea seems good after three days, go for it!

    When life gives you lemons

image.jpg No more turning lemons into lemonade. There are some people saying bacon is a good food product. But too much bacon could turn into a lemon situation.

    Happiness vs. Joy

image.jpg Joy can be present during our least happy times. It's when we have a good balance of happiness and joy that we can live in peace.

    What are you thinking?

image.jpg After listening to me rant about my sagging marriage, my mother's only advice was "Think happy thoughts." I thought she was crazy, but in the end, she was right. When we dwell on negative thoughts, we reap a harvest of unhappiness.

    Hurry up and wait!

image.jpg I'm usually pretty good at waiting...except for in hospitals. We arrived at Arrowhead at 6:15 this morning and my husband has his shoulder replaced (other one done last December). All is going well, but I'm waiting for him to get into his room... so I can wait for him to sleep off the drugs and then wait to take him home tomorrow. I have my companions who help me wait: iPad, iPhone, Kindle books, Netflix movies. What did folks do before e-friends?

Just a note: Arrowhead is a fine facility. We get excellent treatment, and there is a good feeling about the staff and surroundings. We are blessed to have three big hospitals in and around Sun City!

Is this little guy your friend?

image.jpg To think that once bread was a staple for diets. Today, we are encouraged to eat less white food--white wheat--white sugar--lard--cream, etc. Something so "pure" can play havoc with our bodies. My grandfather was an Iowa farmer and died at the age of 60 from a stroke. He lived on all the white stuff and enjoyed every bite of grandma's great cooking. Perhaps our bodies are too refined to consume refined foods. :)

image.jpg Do you know your Myers-Briggs score? It is helpful for organizations when they can understand why people function the way they do. You can check it out at humanmetrics.com.

What do you have faith in?

image.jpg Do you have faith in any thing or any one? It is easy to lose faith when we are in times of turmoil. We need to remain faithful to our own beliefs, values, and ideals and remember that everyone else deserves to have their own.

Do you have a sweet tooth?

image.jpg I need a 12-step program when it comes to eliminating my desire for something sweet after a meal. My blood sugar count is approaching the level that tells me I need to divert that sweet craving to something else. What works for you?

    Disappointed

    Make amends.jpg

Last week I received 150 copies of my new book, Humble Beginnings--Daily Meditation Moments. I had received 4 copies for proofing a week earlier, and they looked great except for a period (.) missing on the back page and a place on the cover I needed to change a word. When I opened the box and looked over the new books, half of them had skewed fonts on the first five pages, and the other half over the books had skewed fonts on the back five pages. Urghhh. Apparently, there were non-embedded fonts that the computer on the printer picked up. And, I need to "eat" the order. So, my Humble Beginnings is turning into Humble Endings, also. After thinking it over, I realized the content is what matters, and one can't judge a book by its cover, nor the crazy fonts. I will discount them and also give a bunch of them to charity. All is well. Pity party over!
