Jan used to do that (minus the food). I went when she was at Fairway.

What an amazing opportunity for outreach to the members. Most welcome to hear this type of conversation will be happening within the RCSC.

Is it possible that Mike Dirmyer is going to be our permanent GM! I would be fine with that. He is a trustworthy good man

Seems a bit premature E, just a year and a half ago he was running two bowling alleys. I like Mike, i think he is a good asset to the community/RCSC. I also think the GM position is one that will be hard to fill.

I was talking with someone the other day and said the best candidates will come from either a relatively new/younger person who wants to build their resume off a successful effort in one of the best known senior communities in the country; or from an older, more established candidate looking to downsize from the rat race as they approach their career's end. Either works well.

I've long argued non-profits tend to let management people stay around too long. They (the organization) gets comfortable and they (management people), get comfortable and settle in to the status quo. We stagnate and allow everyone and everything to just drift. After 5 or more years, the checks and balances on performance should become standard operating procedure. Setting benchmarks and goals for said managers becomes a necessity; Sun City did none of that.

    Hopefully we learned.

I guess only time will tell.

Curious. The interim GM is meeting folks at Lakeview at the same time there will be no hot water. Does this pose a health safety concern? I can’t wait to meet the new interim GM, but perhaps when there aren’t any health concerns, especially since food was being offered?

I reached out to Mike Dirmyer with concerns expressed.

    His prompt response:

“I understand how not having hot water could be considered a health safety concern. In this case I am having food prepared off site and not selling it so needing to adhere to food safety requirements does not pertain here. If someone is worried about the hot water situation we do have the bowling alley fully functioning within a short drive or walk if needed.

It is also an optional event so if someone is concerned they don’t have to attend.

I landed on the day because it was the most consistent time I could reserve and commit to for the long term. I also didn’t want to put it off another month as I want to create momentum for a tremendous event.

I plan to continue this when the new GM gets hired and hope that person would expand it to open up the communication with the members.”

It was good to hear Mike say that he would like to make those sessions an ongoing event even after the new GM is hired!

Does anybody know if it will be video recorded?

The Meet Mike chat and lunch was a success! Close to 20 participants!

Mike purposely did not do a full-out promotion on the event because he was concerned about how many might attend.

Good thing, table and overflow seating were full!

Multiple topics discussed by most every attendee. Not everyone ate pizza!

Neither, brought my own coffee, but when i finished that, i had to make a cup of the flavored K-cup in the room. I told myself i wasn't going to speak, my bad, as i was unable to sit in silence.

With all of that out of the way, today proved one thing to me...our path forward is on a personal level. We've all fallen into the social media trap, the newspaper trap, the giant meeting trap, the new website will save us trap. We've forgotten the incredible value of face to face two-way interpersonal relationships that results in human to human contact. We all want the glitzy easy answers to becoming better, to becoming whole as a community, as a society.

There-in is the fallacy and the failure of expecting technology to fix us. Hell, if anything, A. I. will make it all worse. Nope, not saying we can't use them, i am saying they cannot be the crutch we lean on and into. Goodness, i've known this for more years than i can count, i just lost sight of how incredibly important human interaction on a personal level is.

We can blame the pandemic, we can blame the splintered political environment, but the reality of where we live, how unique it is and the incredible structure we were built on and around makes it all so easily doable. There's no magic potion, no wand to wave, we simply have to start putting people in rooms and sharing their experiences. Today proved that to me 100%

Don't get me wrong, there needs to be structure, planning, cooperation and tools to measure whether we are meeting set goals. Hell, we need to start by setting goals, what we want to accomplish and how we are going to do that. Imagine, a community asking members to step up and become part of the solution by talking to other members. How hard is that?

My apologies for making this sound simple, but i am here to tell you, it is. In a world where everything is crashing, colliding and moving way to fast for most of us senior citizens...lets return to our roots, slow down and embrace the idea our community is better than all that. Embrace the idea that our salvation is embodied in each of us.

Let me give you my best logical assessment: Tom Marone and i could not be further apart politically. That said, we are friends because i know how much he loves Sun City. That's what matters to me; when i walked out of the room today, all i cared about was the fact i was sitting there chatting with RCSC members and the interim general manager who all wanted one/the same thing...Sun City to be the best it can be.

Let me be ever more clear/blunt: That doesn't happen because of the organizations; that comes from each and every one of us. We are the organizations, we are the community, we are Sun City.
