FYI, this is going to a very much out of the box thinking, but there are services that will build and maintain the network infrastructure needed, make sure it’s playable and placed where it’s needed and they maintain the entire network for you. This is a big step, because it means allowing the network to be managed and maintained by a vendor, but the return on investment should be well worth the monthly fee paid to maintain the network. The idea of using a company such as Everbrite to build the network, and implement the network infrastructure is a foreign concept to most at the RCSC. I would think the lesson may be learned through this most recent foray into upgrading the website. You can’t build a website, add several different software applications to try and bridge the old platform with new features and expect it to be trouble free for starters. When you have to include old school legacy applications into a new electronic application the results are not going to produce spectacular results. I believe we need interactive applications for the site, making it user friendly with data and metrics easily available. Unfortunately, I don’t see that being possible in today’s application.

What else is scary is why is it taking so long to produce? We were promised months ago when it would become active and I haven't seen a thing, not even a Beta version?

    Jean,
No two ways about it, it will probably cost money to get transformed into a digital media environment. Yet, to be able to be interactive with members, to be able to share video and audio with other users, it takes a network to support the content. What is being updated by the two committees will advance the site for download and viewing but I haven’t read anything yet about streaming services to include voice and video. I could be wrong, and I apologize if I am, but if the RCSC should pursue video classes, lectures by video, and interactive conversations with presentations then we need to seek better venues and platforms for the software. What is in place now I don’t believe can come close to performing to that level and the limitations due to the current system is not conducive to expanding the scope of what we need.

Trying to make an AMC Gremlin act and perform like a Ford F-150 is a feat that may not be completely feasible. The analogy is about where we are as far as the current platform in place. There may be something produced but it may not be anywhere close to what the community needs. Not any one’s fault as the direction was probably update the site. The hard part is trying to update an existing antique.

I may be wrong but I was under the impression that new website will have nothing to do with the current site. The current site had some improvements made by RCSC staff, but it will be entirely retired and the new and improved $300,000 website will take over?

❗️The new web site has been delayed until LATE MAY❗️

❓WHY❓ This is due to issues with TEG integration. Umbraco Cloud was being used in our new environment. TEG would not work successfully with it. A new release of Umbraco (13) has just been released. It appears that TEG can integrate using this new release. TEG software runs on its own servers.

I did review the committee notes and I was remiss in reading what I thought was integration between the new and old. That would be my error and I apologize. I had a misconception about the new release and its applicability. Again, my apologies for misunderstanding.

My concern is the new $300,00 site and its capabilities. Here’s hoping the new site allows for digital access and be maintained at least weekly to stay relevant and the software not allowed to become outdated and stagnant again.

Read it. If I'm reading it correctly, I think it will be a mistake to use Facebook for the RCSC Visitors Center info.

I for one will not sign-up for Facebook, but that's just me!

I don't know what they intend to with TEG. We currently us TEG for our Elections of Directors along with its use for golf, but if it can still used from a separate server I guess it's not going away.!

I have not read the article attached, but please tell me there’s really no evidence of the visitors center migrating to Facebook? There are so many issues with that, starting with Facebook content and personal privacy issues. Tracking of users on Facebook for their personal information and inventorying of their personal data is not something most people want, therefore, a lot of people will not sign up for facebook. I am one of those people.

For the Visitors Center I think Facebook was a great idea. We need 2 sites, one for us and one for the people we would like to join us. Easy to find and to update. You won't have to sign up to read it and that doesn't really matter since 72% of seniors( 50+) are already on Facebook. As long as the administrators realize that their only job is marketing!

    This I’m with you FYI!

RCSC SUN CITY and SCHOA both rely on Facebook as their primary social media presence.

At least SCHOA posts regularly on Nextdoor and and responds to comments! They also submit stories (press releases) for publication in the Sun City Independent. Probably elsewhere, too! RCSC had a Press & Publications webpage. UPDATE editions and ancient publications, NO PRESS RELEASES! HERE

RCSC is so guarded about sharing their YouTube videos! They need to allow embedding to other sites. That black box needs to GO!

I hope the OCC reconsiders the narrow reach of Facebook…and generates relevant accessible content on the media website.

    That's good to know!

To much crap goes thru Facebook with more things than I care to know or have others know about me!

I think one of the common thoughts in the above is who makes the call between doing something in house or outsourcing it. To me that sounds like a management call. As a member, I simply do not have the capability or desire to get into the weeds. If the GM is incapable of making a sound decision regarding insource vs outsource then we have a different problem. One of the things I saw as an organizational struggle was continuity and vision. IMHO the lack of continuity has created some of the vision issues. Not sure how to address it but it seems to be a recurring theme for RCSC.

    From the RCSC website:
RCSC Members are encouraged to attend twice-monthly Board Meetings where Members are given an opportunity to provide comments, ask questions, and share concerns with both the Board and Management.

I knew there was the ability to speak at either meeting, and here it is in print, on the RCSC website. I don’t know when comments were eliminated from the second meeting, but my memory did serve me well.

The Exchange (formerly Member/Board Exchange), is typically on the 2nd Monday (re-established in April 2022, during Dale Lehrer’s service as RCSC president) renamed in January 2023. The formal Board Meeting is on the last Thursday, does not meet during July and August.

    • The next Exchange Meeting is scheduled for Monday, May 12, 2025, at 9:00 am in the Sundial Auditorium. Members may speak three minutes on anything related to RCSC.
    • The next Board Meeting is scheduled for Thursday, May 29, 2025, at 9:00 am in the Sundial Auditorium. Members may speak to any motion on the agenda for three minutes.

The written description as to the twice monthly meetings says nothing about needing the comments to be specific to a motion. Then the example of last month when there were no motions and member comments still were not allowed. Can’t advertise the ability to attend twice monthly meetings where members are encouraged to offer comments, then not spell out the stipulations. Also, need to include the caveat that some meetings may not have available member comments available.
This, in my opinion, is intentionally misleading and deceptive. This is a direct quote from the RCSC website, which is highlighting the various aspects of the community in the attempt to make it sound as if the board of directors and management team are available for interaction twice a month. As a member of the RCSC this is designed to be misleading to those who would want to share their thoughts with the board or management during any available meeting. Since the paragraph does not explain what constitutes when and how comments can be made, all meetings are open for member interaction as it’s written. No exceptions noted, therefore, no exceptions are allowed.

If needed, take it to the attorney for interpretation. Ask him how the paragraph delineates whether or not there are specific circumstances for members to be able to interact with the board of directors or the management team. Where, in the published statement does it mention anything other than the ability to interact with the board or management team twice a month? Also, last month, no member comments were allowed at all at the second meeting, further removing member comments from happening, despite the attached statement saying they are. Can’t have it both ways. Either you allow member comments twice a month without strings attached or you remove the entire statement as it’s intentionally designed to create confusion.

CM I think this is a matter that FYI can weigh in on via Roberts Rules. I agree the statement is misleading but IMHO the board does not have the training available to know what the rules are.

    John,
I think FYI will be able to offer guidance as to proper procedures in regards to Robert’s Rules. I greatly respect his knowledge and acumen on the various aspects of meetings and other procedural matters.
What we have here is a legal matter, one that defines the availability of two meetings open for comments from members. Specifically, the ability for members to speak at two meetings monthly to offer comments and ask questions of the members of the board and management staff. In my opinion, this should dictate the ability for members to have time available at both meetings to offer comments and meet their board of directors and management staff.
I anticipate FYI’s input as to how RR apply and what the interpretation is.
