The Sun City Visitor Center is an excellent place to get information about Sun City. Did you know that SC has more rec centers and the lowest annual fee than any other Sun City in the country?
Seriously? Your talking about Sun City the original that was built in 1960...right? I am actually probably moving there in a year... How do you like it? Pros and Cons?
I moved to the original Sun City, Arizona, in 2007 and have not found a single negative. People are friendly and there is a club for whatever interests you. Housing prices dropped but are now on the upswing. Any kind of store or restaurant you want/need is close by. I only leave Sun City to visit my 2 sons who live about 20 minutes away. Then there is the occasional restaurant out of SC and who can leave out Walmart? There are at least 4 within 5 miles of my house! Another enticing fact is that we have one of the lowest sales tax rates. I think it is 7 something.
If anyone is interested in good information about Sun City, Arizona, google Sun City Arizona Visitor Center. Somewhere on the page you can request information. If you already live here go to the office across from Bell Library and request information. You might even see me there. I'm a volunteer.
If you have some interest in the original Sun City, try to visit the museum. We thought we would only be there for a few seconds considering the small size of the home, but we stayed and chatted with the gal there for quite a long time. She knows so much about the very first master planned 55 community in the US and it was a treat to see how simple folks lived back in 1960.
Here are some pictures of the Sun City Visitor Center Annual Lunch 2013 I am the lady in the white vest with baseball buttons on it. You will find that people in Sun City are very active. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?....1073741825.157742720937046&type=1&permPage=1
Which book Emily? The newest one is a paperback with plenty of pics, but there is also a red one with lots of history. Another one that is nice to have is one with sketches of all the churches and temple.
Somewhere, buried in the closet book case, we have the 25 year anniversary book, it came with the house. My husbands aunt was the original owner, bought in 1960.....
Thought so Emily. That one is chock full of great pics, but it works well with the red one archer mentioned. It's titled Jubilee: The 25th Anniversary of Sun City, Arizona and is by the late Jane Freeman (we lost her recently) and Glenn Sanberg. I don't know anything about Sanberg as I usually hear it referred to as "the Freeman book." It's really worth having and I think somewhere else Bill Pearson said it should be required reading for us Sun Citians. I concur.
