This morning, as i was preparing a post for the Facebook Chat Arizona group i belong to, i went in search of the RCSC UPDATE (formerly Sun Views). It's posted online, but i always appreciated getting it in my copy of the Independent once a month, unfortunately that stopped years back (apparently we saved $10k). I've long subscribed to the theory, out of sight, out of mind; but what the heck do i know? I was posting a copy of the notice for the "First Annual Easter Sunrise Service." The event was held on the patio (weather permitting), starting at 6 am at Town Hall (Fairway). It was held there in April of 1961, just four short months after the Town Hall rec center opened and Sun City had only seen residents moving in for about one year (April, 1960). I would guess the population by then would be around 2000. I wanted to see if the annual event was going on and indeed it was. The location these days is the Sun Bowl and also listed on the same page was the Easter egg hunt the day before (also at the Sun Bowl) for grand children. It was good to see both events still popular. That's not the purpose of this post, something else caught my eye and literally took my breath away. I'm still scratching my head, and delighted to be doing so. For as long as we have lived here (22 years), there's been a long standing lament how poorly summer residents and RCSC members are treated. The only thing that ever seemed to take place in the summer was repairs (that angered members even more). Knowing that, imagine my surprise/shock when i saw the advertisement for 12 scheduled events starting on May 7 and running through August 20. Entitled "Hot Fun Outta The Sun," were all scheduled at the Sundial Auditorium, Summer 2025. The entertainment ran the gamut from game shows to live musical performances. I suspect this was at the hand of the now departed general manager. Whomever is responsible, kudos for recognizing RCSC members remaining through the hot summer months love the opportunity to have fun and do stuff "outta the sun." Love the title by the way. Just another in the long list of reasons so many of us living in Sun City love it here.
Bill, eyesopen forwarded the promotional material to me earlier this month. She also said she was glad to see it returning again this year, which means this spectacular opportunity for things to do is a repeating theme. Again, not well known which means we still need to do a better job of communicating. But, a phenomenal array of entertainment available for the members.
