Have not had a vaccine since I retired in 2017. It's such a personal choice. I spoke at length with my doc about them, Covid, RSV and a cold have such similar symptoms and the length is about the same, 2 weeks or so. My personal experience with vaccines (I had to get them because I worked in a hospital) is I was sick every year. Other than sinus I have not been sick since, and if I ever had covid I was not aware of it. I may decide to get them sometime in the future. I did find this on-line: The RSV vaccine provides immunity that lasts for at least two RSV seasons after a single dose. Clinical trials have shown durable protection against lower respiratory tract disease for about 23 months, though some immunity may wane over time. Thank you. I had the original COVID the 2nd week of January in 2020. I never had a flu or URI hit me like that virus ever. I've had the vaccine and several boosters, but won't do it again because the immune response screwed me up for several days. I had the 2 doses of Shingrx, pneumococcal, and TDap 4 years ago. The RSV is the last that I'm doing. I had to have the flu vaccine every year when I was in healthcare also even though I did not contact patients because I was in the buildings. I never had any side effects from the flu vaccine but know people who did. Will post again if there's any reaction to the RSV besides sore arm.
I had the RSV vaccine in the fall of 2023. I had two grandchildren born at that time and their pediatricians recommended I get it, the flu shot and the Covid booster before holding the babies. I haven't had another vaccine since. Ask your doctor or pharmacist how long the immunity lasts. I was under the impression it might be two years before I needed another one because I am healthy. It may be different depending on your age and health condition. Also I had no reaction from any of the vaccines.
Thanks, Janet. I'm getting the RSV tonight and DH is getting the first Shingrx dose and RSV. I'm hoping the Shingrx doesn't hit him as hard as it did me.
Janet, I asked the CVS pharmacist who administered our vaccines and the RSV is one and done for life. Yay. The Shingrx vaccine dose # 2 is done 60 plus days after dose # 1 up to 6 months.
I have never had two vaccines at the same time. At least not since I was a kid. Just cautious I guess. I had no reaction from the Shingles shot either. Hope it works well for you.
No reaction from either of us for both of the vaccines which is good news. I was pleasantly surprised about no reaction for DH to the Shingrx. Amazing how the immune system changes from the mid 50s to the mid 60s. Hope you all have a nice, peaceful Easter.
