Even tho it is landlocked, Arizona has many ISLANDS in lakes and rivers. The majority are in the Colorado River and in Lake Mead and Lake Roosevelt. Some of the islands are in the U.S. Islands Directory because they have a ham radio.

Arizona also has Sky Islands - mountains that are isolated by surrounding lowlands of a dramatically different environment, a situation which, in combination with the altitudinal zonation of ecosystems, has significant implications for natural habitats.

First time I heard of Sky Islands was when visiting New Mexico and seeing an exhibit about them. It is a fascinating concept, but I heard that the generally warmer weather is affecting these as the life needing cooler temps have to creep higher and higher up.
