Thanks for pointing this out. My computer is too old to be able to pick up the stream (or whatever) but I did get over to several different friend's homes to listen to some of the April Fool's Day spectacular. Okay maybe not that spectacular but very enjoyable.

Not being critical, but perhaps literal. The “radio” stations can’t be listened to on a radio. The only access is via a website URL, making these links a website that plays music.
If there are call letters for the station as well as a dial location for the radio genre to be listened to, that information would be most appreciated.
Thank you for the information, it was interesting to hear.

An actual broadcast radio station is extremely more expensive than an internet music site setup.

Very true, but when I read about the availability of radio stations in Sun City, I was actually thinking of broadcast radio availability to be listened to on a radio. A website hosting music is fine, but once again, limited to use by those that have the requisite media capability to use it.
So, in reality the RCSC doesn’t have radio stations available to be listened by broadcasting the signal to a radio. There are entertainment channels hosted by the RCSC that can be accessed with a computer or phone.
I realize this is nitpicking, but I was hoping for a broadcast radio station to listen to outside on my radio. To me, that is what radio is.
May everyone enjoy the music made available through the RCSC.

I wonder if we start saying,"Gee it would be great to hear some doo wop or 50s rock or whatever " that it would start happening on this RCSC computer feed. What do we call this sort of service because, as pointed out, it is not radio.

    carptrash,
It’s a website or web based music service. And it provides excellent content from what I was able to read.
Someone did a superb job putting this service together and I thank them.

Are you seeking to put in requests for your favorite songs?

Yes, something like that. Not just particular songs because from what I could tell if I asked for Tutti Frutti it could get played but who knows when, but larger themes (or something) .. well like the April Fool's Day show. I guess they had an International Women's Day show on . . ...International Women's Day, which was great but how do we know when something like that is going to happen?

If we had a community newspaper, we could print broadcast messages about the special events being hosted by the station. Something like “50’s Friday” and provide the date and time.

I truly believe the Sun Views, while it was being printed and distributed, had the greatest impact of all of the available resources for outreach to the community. It was very well received and looked forward too by many of us residents. It offered insight into various clubs, a calendar of upcoming events sponsored by the RCSC, as well as informative articles about the community. I don’t know of anyone who did not appreciate the information provided.
Alas, cost was cited as the reason to stop the Sun Views, and there has been a huge gap in reaching the community ever since. We can build websites until the cows come home, but they will never have the impact the local newspaper had. By not publishing a printed newspaper available for all, we are ignoring about 25% of the population. Remember, this is an aging population that’s aging in place. There are so many being overlooked because they don’t participate on the internet or social media. A community newspaper has the ability to be inclusive of all of the members, keep them informed and enlightened as well as encourage engagement. A small price to pay to be available for everyone who wants it.

You know, we have over 130 Clubs within our community. We have some pretty heavy-hitters when it comes to the equipment they have such as the Metal Club with their lathes and milling machines and plasma cutter, and the Vintage Vehicle Club, and the Wood shops with all their equipment etc.

Wouldn't it be nice if we had a Journalist Club with our own ability to produce perhaps a bi-weekly or monthly newspaper? I'm sure most of it would be produced on a computer so all that leaves is the ability to print and distribute it!

I know there are Members out there who would probably welcome the chance to participate or get back into journalism, but somebody needs to initiate the process. They could also print-up many of the brochures and fliers for the RCSC and other Clubs, (for a small fee of course?).

We kinda know that the Outreach and Communications Committee has shown us little outreach or communication, and with the loss of the Sun City in Focus, we don't have much!

    Think about it!

    FYI,
Thanks for sharing such a fantastic idea. You are so right, there has got to be people willing to share their ideas and experiences to help create a local newspaper for the community. I am sure there are many wonderful authors and writers out there who can provide guidance on what the best way to proceed is.
My best guess is seeking those who have experience in the print publishing industry and see if they can offer some insight how to proceed. I am wanting a newspaper, but have no experience in what it takes to typeset, place, and produce a written newspaper that can support our community. Anyone interested in providing such information as to where to start with a rough idea how to proceed? All suggestions are appreciated and welcome.
    Thanks for the idea FYI

I would bet that some of the local business' would buy advertising that would offset some of the expenses?

We are also paying for all the people that don't want it.

Like Ace and True Value? They already put flyers in the free Tuesday Independent. along with Realtors, Churches, independent service people, restaurants, etc. Just for reference I asked our mailman if he could just dump the junk mail. He laughed and said he gets asked that all the time. My recycle bin is next to the mail slot. It's such a different world. I never see The Arizona Republic in driveways, or any paper for that matter. My neighbor who is 84 does go and get 3 papers every Sunday for himself and 2 other elderly neighbors. Dollar Tree the minute they open so he can save 50 cents per paper. He is so sweet. Just sharing what I know and what I see around town.

There always is the option of not having it delivered to your home. You only need to call the Independent and they will do their best to make sure you are not included in the delivery route.
The Sun Views was an insert in the local Independent, making an effort to allow those on the list of wanting the free weekly paper available to receive it. As far as I know, the option to request to not have delivery is still an option. Just call and ask them to not deliver to your address anymore.

Thx, my neighbor and I share one. I called them for almost a year to get one for myself but it never happened. I believe you can get all independent news online, including archived articles, for $5.00/month

Well such a thing could be produced on a computer, but printinghundreds of copies to distribute is a whole different ball of wax.
