PACK the auditorium for the Thursday, November 21st meeting! In the making of this motion**, Director Collins admitted that the Board members had already decided that whatever the architect said was the best for Sun City, they would go along with that recommendation. After asking for a show of hands of lawn bowlers and lake owners who were present at the meeting, Director Kise felt that they were the only groups that the Board heard from on Monday. Tell your neighbors! Tell your friends in Sun City!! Talk about this at your Club meetings!! Tell your neighborhood groups!! Talk to your fellow church members!! Talk to shoppers at local stores!! PACK the auditorium for the Thursday, November 21st meeting! **Director Collins - I move that the recommendation by TriArc, the architect engineering firm designing the Mountainview project, regarding the location of the proposed Performing Arts Center (PAC), be accepted. Please heed Jean's advice. Show the board that you care about your community, your neighbors and your friends. Putting a PAC at Lakeview without a full site plan being developed for Lakeview first is foolish. Using a great view from the lobby of a virtually windowless building as a major selling point for this as the site of the PAC is nonsense. The Board did not even bother to check with surrounding homeowners on how they felt about having a multistory building built in their backyard. The entire elements list for what was to be built was developed behind closed doors in meetings that were never intended to be decision making meetings. To the best of my knowledge none of the committees were even consulted. The board put out a forecast of future budgets that does not even include an estimate of what it will cost to operate a PAC. In my view this is simply not a professional way to go about redeveloping Sun City for the future. Like Jean, I encourage everyone to attend to attend the November 21st board meeting at 9:00am at the Sun Dial auditorium.
I'm not on Facebook so I can't post this, but I hope somebody and everybody who reads this will! We need to fill the auditorium in the same manner as we did for the Library leases. We need to back the Board into the corner, and let them know that in no uncertain terms, that we do not want the location of the PAC at Lake View to be determined unless or until they do a full development study for the complete renovation of the Lake View Rec Center and property. Please pass this along to everybody you know and to every Social Media venue that pertains to Sun City! Thanks.
Regarding other threads on TOSA concerning the discussion of the PAC -- Folks -- It doesn't matter what happened Monday; it does no good to continue the what if's?, why's?, what for's?, etc. What matters is that we get the word out and PACK the auditorium for the Thursday, November 21st meeting! I have always said that all Board meetings, with the exception of Executive Sessions for the matters described in the Bylaws, should be open meetings. I don't think they necessarily have to give Members the option to speak at each meeting. Some people say that the Board needs to have closed meetings to discuss ideas. I disagree. This is an example of what can happen in those meetings. All Board meetings should be open if there is a majority of the Board in one setting discussing Board business. Less than a majority, such as Board officers or committees would be able to meet without notice or in open session. We have heard from a few former RCSC Directors that there are decisions made in closed sessions. Not good!
