We now have a recommendation for the PAC at Lakeview. Are we going to receive dollar figures? Are we going to be shown drawings showing what the rest of the center will look like after the PAC is constructed? What about the fact that Lakeview is the next area that is to be improved. Why would you go to the expense in 2025/2026 of removing the Lawn Bowling and constructing a PAC and then in another two or three years, re-do the rest of the Lakeview campus? I would think it would be more feasible to work on the entire 17-acres at one time. I think that some members of the Board forgot that on Thursday, January 18, 2024, a Special Session was held at Mountain View Auditorium that featured a PowerPoint presentation entitled "Mountain View Renovation Elements" as well as a Mountain View Renovation Brief. In that presentation, at approximately 12:45, the slide states "keep Lakeview Lawn Bowling, Shuffleboard, Fishing and Mini Golf at Lakeview." This is what the Board said at that meeting. I know that the membership has urged the Board to 'just get on with it' but I think that they meant Mountain View not Lakeview. I hope that members realize that this PAC Special Session meeting is just as important as the Library Special Session was to the community. If the Board decides that they are making a motion regarding the PAC in a Special Session, it sounds like they are planning on only one reading. That means that we, the members, only get to speak once. It's as simple as....do you want to see the Performing Arts Center at Lakeview where the Lawn Bowling site is? Show up Monday!!
I hope you don't mind me copying and pasting your reply on the proper thread, Bill P. (Jean) "As far as the Lakeview PAC, it's obviously a rush job with next Monday's meeting used as a first reading and the vote on the board meeting a week or two later. They know there will be a lot of push back and their goal is obviously to shorten the time frame for mounting resistance. To be clear, the Lakeview center sits on 17 acres. The idea the PAC has to take the lawn bowling greens when a far better site would be behind the bowling alley is questionable at best. Let the games begin all over again. eh?"
It's important that people show up to voice their comments/questions as I've been informed by a Board member that the decision to build the PAC (whatever that looks like) has already been made - they are just voting on the recommendation of the architect to build it at Lakeview in the lawn bowling area. If you want to understand why fees are going up - start attending the meetings and paying attention to how this organization is being run. Monday, 11/11 at 9:00 AM Sundial. My thoughts are as follows: If owners don’t want another Library fiasco, PLEASE COME AND SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS/QUESTIONS on this agenda to build a PAC for $14M at Lakeview, particularly without consideration of the renovation to happen there in another 2 years. Where is the long-term planning and data that supports this spend? What is it that the BOD specifically plans to build given we don’t know the elements submitted to this architect? How will it fit into the future Lakeview renovation? Don’t we need a longer-term plan? How many hours a day will it be used? What will be the energy costs in the summer, as it sits empty? And for the activities that are to be transferred to this facility, how does that affect the buildings they are held in now? And were the facilities being used for those activities (other than theatre) raised as inadequate? Why not make this a more broader-use facility with the nice pull out theatre seating a member researched and suggested so that the facility can have multi-uses? Make great use of the view vs a dark theatre. Include a cafe with walking paths that tie into the beautiful hill we have. $14M if it stays $14M is a LOT of money for a limited use facility. I suspect it will end up costing more - so we'll be back to the ridiculous $40M spend. Unwise spending is another reason our fees are going up! Let’s make sure this is good for Sun City as a whole and is good for drawing people to buy in Sun City. Current data suggests otherwise with the new generations looking to buy. Please come and share your thoughts and expectations!
