Just a correction: I believe Lakes East/West golf maintenance building was $4M, not $8M. Still a significant number! Let's keep track of the plans for the maintenance building for the North golf course so that a more reasonable amount is spent.

Janet Curry - 4 million, 6 million, 8 millionj. Makes no difference

Money spent on a structure that is not Aesthetic to a golf course.

I 100% agree the appearance of a maintenance shed (as we used to call them) is not something that adds value to our community.

John but does prevent the potentially theft of golf carts or other equipment.

Since you like of the wall ideas as my generation formerly said, why not have the relevant committee conduct a contest to paint a mural on the sides of the building. The theme would be representing Sun City, golf and the other recreational activities we have to offer. Could be broken down each side representing some or a collage type thing. We must have the talent here or we could go to the local high schools or maybe ASU or a combo. There has to be a number of starving artists willing to display their chops.

Just a thought. I have had worse ideas. I am totally serious about this.

If we can't find muralists here (Sun City) a short drive through phoenix reveals that there are many folks able to create fine murals there. I doubt they'd be hard to find.
Here is a start after 2 minutes.

We have strayed off topic here but, while we are there, Sun City does have a wonderful muralist living in our midst. Any maintenance building need only be adequate to serve its function. I doubt anyone would use a picture of a maintenance building as advertising material for Sun City,

If you have a problem, solve it. The maintenance building is reported to be an eyesore, what can you do not to make it an eyesore? Hence my idea. Anybody else have any ideas?

Which maintenance building are you talking about being an eyesore - Lakes or North? For me, I just look the other way. However if I were a homeowner looking out on it, it would be a different story. Not sure I would like a mural. Depends on what it depicts. I know a lady whose house looks out to the Lakes building. She was just glad they changed the color and finally got the fountain going in the pond next to it. There was a maintenance building when the people bought their homes and it was more unsightly than the new one.

I went to the open house for the Lakes building and couldn't believe it cost $4M. It's a serviceable building with walls around it. Nothing too fancy but I thought the equipment looked dirty and unkempt. I don't mind having decent places for employees to work, but I think the money should be spent on projects that the Members can enjoy.

There was a man on Del Webb and White Mt. (I think) who put up a memorial on his property in honor of all branches of our military. IMHO it was not ugly or offensive, yet he was forces to take it down. All over Sun City sheds are visible over the tops of fences. I was driving in Phase one Thursday and saw 3 pickup trucks parked inside chain link fenced in back yards, one rusted and in very bad shape. Yet Sun City can spend 4 million building an "eyesore", and now has to spend more to make the "eyesore" look less like an "eyesore".

I suggest we leave the Lakes maintenance building as is. Sorry if people don't care for it, but I think it would be spending good money after bad and it wouldn't be any more pleasing. Hopefully RCSC has learned a lesson going forward. I have never seen a golf maintenance building that wasn't a metal one. No need to dress it up. South's building is fine. It is metal and fairly new. When I retired, my last office was in a metal building. It was attractive, built well and served its purpose nicely.

I like Janet's suggestion. Unless there is something wrong with the building or it does not serve its function anymore it should not be replaced.
