Secrecy Isn't Working

HH (Josie) - I completely get it. Party politics without the party. There were incidents that troubled me in the "recruiting" of Board candidates (aka screening and ego stroking process) and these were actions taken by RCSC Board/Election officials. So the question is, and will always be, how do you get highly qualified people committed to voluntarily come out of retirement and work for free for a group whose only vocal members criticize everything you do and things you are not doing? Obviously, what I describe is a very toxic environment that you have chosen not to volunteer for. This was the environment I experienced and am still trying to change. Any positive recommendations are welcome. John Fast

You are correct, I have chosen not to volunteer. I would have liked to, I have 17 years of non profit experience including attending all board meetings, however it's the toxic I have removed from my life years ago and do not wish for it to return in another form. You all just keep picking the people with the same MO. Don't get out there and talk with folks. Don't have little one on one or small group meetings getting folks excited about Sun City. Keep ignoring the members, that'll work. Do you have any idea of the talent that could be out there? Have you even tried to find it? My guess is no. I did, a little coffee meeting or afternoon tea. Just keep letting the same old personalities run the place. Let them scream and yell with flailing arms acting like a toddler having a tantrum. Keep allowing Dave to be a crass, disgusting committee member representing this community. That will attract people. The thing I loved about Sun Health Foundation was the integrity of our board members. In 17 years I never heard a cuss word from any of them.

    Best regards. Josie

    Josie,

You points are well taken. I actually have had one on one meetings with members and it was educational for me and formed the basis for the initial and formative views I hold. I also experienced the entrenched culture and it experienced me as you can see from the changes that occurred. This is a WIP for which I see nothing but upside potential. So on to my latest crusade! I am trying to sell us all on the idea of having one volunteer day which would involve some roll up your sleeves work around the campus in the morning and some fun stuff in the afternoon. My hope is that by working together as volunteers and having some fun we can help start the healing process that is necessary to unify the community. It may meet with management resistance but I am hoping they will see that the benefits could easily outweigh the costs, including risks, involved. Just a thought.

    Best regards,

    John

  4. How would you know what kind of committee member I am since you never attend, just whine on this site? You drop more dimes than an informant in the Latin Eagles and then you feel “threatened” when your little feelings are hurt when some fires back. Since you know nothing of my background, what my career was and the skill set I have other than your third rate research on a site I have not used maybe in over nine years. I hope this is not reflective of your career performance.
Do you feel threatened now or as a long time colleague of mine said, the truth hurts and it’s always funny.

Not sure what universe you are living in, but no, it does not depend on several factors, only the ones I set for myself Dave.

I don't have a clue what you are talking about here. I never mentioned what kind of committee member you are.

Thank you Chris. I stand by that statement. Do you think you were included in this 'crass' reference to Sun City Residents from Dave on SC Advocates? Do you think they should be made aware of how a committee member feels about them? If they knew how do you think they would feel? Would they be more supportive of the community?

“Rich, while I found your explanations spot on and easily understandable, you must know that a good percentage of our population is obtuse at best and wouldn’t understand non-profits if Big Bird came down and explained it."

Let's not stop there though, let's insult the car and dog club too.

"Then we have the dog club which to me is the like the car club with fur. I spoke with the club president when this first surfaced and learned that while teaching River c how to run in between sticks, the real purpose is for the two legged creatures to hang out and shoot the bull. So what they want is an air conditioned social club house so they can hang out, throw seasonal parties while Ruffy learns to run in circles to catch his/her tail.”

The rhetoric you seem to applaud from Board and Committee members says a lot Chris.
