Small Small world. We went to same High School. Oak Lawn Community High. Go Spartans!!!

  2. I hated high school and couldn’t wait to leave. Graduation night a girl who was in my home room for four years asked me if I was sad. I replied no because starting tomorrow I will never see any of you people again in my life. It has come true and I am happy for it. University was different and I enjoyed all my classes, organic chemistry not so much.

  3. HH, what class were you in and who was/were your favorite teacher(s)? You fart in’ Spartan.

  4. John, I was sort of mistaken as I really have to clean out my emails. The Budget & Finance meeting is really schedule on Wednesday 1-3 at Great Sonoran room at Grand. Ironically the LRP/B&F meeting is schedules from 2:30-5 at the same place. Sorry for the confusion as I am a bit confused how two meetings will be held simultaneously at the place. Sorry, I just work here.

This on topic of Sun City libraries:

Update Regarding MCLD Sun City Libraries from the RCSC Board of Directors

    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
    April 17, 2024

The RCSC Board would like to report that we are making progress defining the terms of a five-year lease agreement with Maricopa County Library District (MCLD), which would replace the current five-year lease (2019-2024) that expires on June 30.

In a meeting including MCLD administrative leaders and members of the RCSC Board and management team held on Tuesday (4/16), MCLD Library Director Jeremy Reeder opened the discussion by emphasizing that MCLD tailors its operations in each of its libraries to the particular community it serves, eschewing a one-size-fits-all approach to its varied locations.

In an open, wide-ranging, and constructive conversation, RCSC representatives were able to address some of the particular issues of concern, ranging from the county and RCSC resources available to ensure safe social spaces; to the details surrounding the designation by the Heat Relief Network of libraries as cooling centers; to communication regarding incident reporting; to questions of liability; to extending (or, in our case, not extending) Wi-Fi connectivity into the parking lots around the leased library space; to conditions for renting additional RCSC space for special programming.

MCLD was most responsive to the concerns raised and will work closely with RCSC to fine-tune a lease contract that balances the needs of our residents with the requirement as a taxpayer-funded entity to remain open to the general public.

The RCSC Board is confident that a mutually agreeable contract will be drawn up that provides our residents with the very best of library services for years to come.

Exciting news – our local library leases are getting renewed! It’s great to know we’ll still have access to these important resources.

But, let’s talk about the process behind it.

The discussions between the RCSC Board and MCLD in this release sounded like they were open and friendly, but something continues to be missing:

Where were we, the community, in all of this?

It’s essential for us to have a say in decisions that impact us.

Plus, without clear rules and oversight, how can we be sure everything’s above board?

We need standardized processes to ensure fairness and accountability, so decisions aren’t made haphazardly.

Let’s keep it real – transparency, fairness, and involving everyone are key to good governance. We all deserve to always have a voice in decisions that affect our community.

I would feel much more confident that both libraries are being renewed with a 5 year lease if it was spelled out in this email blast. I don't see both libraries referred to or the word leases anywhere in this RCSC News Release.

Yes, all wording in this release is in the singular tense which makes one wonder what is really being discussed.

Just wondering if a lease is required for each location or can a single lease agreement cover both locations since the occupant will be the same entity, the County?

I was just informed there is an article from the newspaper that states the 5 year leases are for both libraries.

As a subscriber, I confirm the online article and includes quotes from the RCSC recent statement and quotes reporter Scott Tynes received interviewing Maricopa County Library District personnel.

What a non subscriber can see if viewing the Sun City Independent online today:

Is it time to have a thread about everyone's high school lives? Or lack there of?
