Unless a change has been made outside of our team, I will repeat this once more for anyone that cares: there has been NOTHING INCLUDED in the 5 year plan about librairies or the current library space. NO pickelball courts or dog facility. Please stop.

My intent in my original post under Current Events was to remind folks what Committee meetings were being held this week and where. After it was posted, Dave W. posted that a combined meeting of LRP and F&B was going to be held at the Senoran (sp) (Sonoran room at Grand Rec. Ctr.) room. I read that and since I hate to arrive at one location that has been published only to find no one there, I posted that new information to me and suggested if anyone was interested in attending the Finance and Budget meeting at 1 pm, call the corporate office to be sure that it is still being held at Lakeview Rec. Center.
    Corporate Office 623-561-4600 623-561-4601

These excerpts are from our Corporate Documents

    • Article V, Section V of our current Bylaws states: "All meetings of the Board and the Exchanges, excluding Executive Sessions and Informational Meetings, shall be open and video recorded."
    • Policy No. 27 on Standing Committees states: "WHEREAS the Restated Articles of Incorporation and the Corporate Bylaws shall take precedence over Board Policies and that the following Board Policy on Standing Committees shall provide instruction, direction and guidelines regarding such and shall remain in effect until such time it is amended or removed by the Board."
    • The only reference to who can attend committee meetings is found at the bottom of the section entitled Board and Committee Meetings: *NOTE: Board Meeting or Committee Meeting schedules often change, and the information in the Sun City Update may have been revised since it’s publication. For the most up-to-date information, please visit this page often. All meetings are open to RCSC Cardholders.
    • There is nothing in the bylaws of the policies regarding "Team."

I can't venture a guess why the "5-year Team" meeting wasn't publicized. Perhaps they wanted input from the two committees involved before they presented their plan to the entire membership. I'm not saying it's the right thing to do, but with all the issues swirling right now, perhaps we should give them the benefit of the doubt. Call the Corporate office; inquire about the meeting; ask if it's open to the members; decide whether or not you want to attend based on the answer; give them a chance to make their presentation.

Let's not stir the pot before we have finished adding the ingredients!

Linda, I assume you are a member of the Shalimar team. How can a five year plan be developed without these items evaluated? That does not make sense to me. John

Sorry....neither of these hot button items have been discussed as amenities for replacements for the library space. There continues to be speculation after the sudden decision about the library leases and my comment wasn't clear.

Can someone please explain what the heck is "Shalimar"?

  8. FYI, happy to explain. At the beginning of the year B&F committee tasked to put together a 5 year plan. The committee believed the LRP should be involved also with the only problem the combined size of members. Consequently it was agreed that there would be about 5 members from each committee meeting. As for a name it was decided that ad hoc committee of B &F/LRP was cumbersome, so while deciding a name a member said how about Shalimar. We decided why not and it was also a tribute to the 80’s soul/funk group. LRP had no problem with it, so we should all be dancin’ in the streets.

As for the joint meeting on Wednesday, it was all about process in formulating the 5 year plan and a 10 year plan. No figures were discussed, no projects were discussed, it was all about the proces of getting from point A to point B. Jean can check my work on this as she attended as did Bill P. Those are the facts Jack(yes I know you are a Tom, it’s just a saying).

"Our" Beth Lucas was snapped up by SCHOA to be their Marketing Manager. Congratulations! Hated to see her leave but totally understand.

I have to disagree with you, Dave, and I guess it's not the first time!
B&F committee tasked to put together a 5 year plan. The committee believed the LRP should be involved also with the only problem the combined size of members.

From the minutes of the November Board meeting:

    11.16.23 New Business:

    1. Director Fast – I move that senior management is hereby directed to assist the Board to draft and present a Board Policy setting forth the principles and process by which a longrange plan must be prepared with the goal of presenting the Board Policy to the Board at the February Board meeting.

Seconded by Director Rough and prior to the vote, Director Nowakowski moved to amend the motion by adding the word “draft” in front of Board Policy. Seconded by Director Fast, the vote was taken, and the amendment passes unanimously.

    12.14.23 Motions, Second Reading
    Motions Second Reading:

    1. Director Fast – I move that senior management is hereby directed to assist the Board and present a draft Board Policy setting forth the principles and process by which a longrange plan must be prepared with the goal of presenting the Board Policy to the Board at the February Board meeting. The vote was taken, and the motion passed its second reading unanimously.

As for a name it was decided that ad hoc committee of B &F/LRP was cumbersome, so while deciding a name a member said how about Shalimar.
The "TEAM" (because the GM cannot create a committee) was created by our GM, Matthew D. and was named after his sister's pet skunk.

It should be a concern if rec center employees are being snapped up by other organizations in Sun City. That doesn't seem right.

I agree with Jean and will provide a bit more background. While a director I became concerned that the only guidance in our corporate documents for PIF spending was a reference to a long range plan. I discovered there was no formal long range plan and began pleading with the B&F and LRP to make developing one a priority. They both rose to the occasion and started racing down the path to develop Mission, Vision and Values, a long range plan and other processes that will benefit Sun City for decades to come. My involvement was strictly as a facilitator and promoter. The only other thing of any significance I did was to use my excel skills to work with Kevin to refine a forecasting model he had developed. I was not happy our new GM chose to conceal the rest of the process and name it after a pet skunk. I was hopeful he would show some respect and humility but so far that has not been the case.

In my opinion things have changed immensely over the past 12 months in all areas. And not for the better. It feels like we are free falling. Very unorganized and chaotic. Again my opinion.

My own opinion from serving on this Board is that they have spent all their efforts trying to achieve their own agenda and defending against anyone who dares question the propriety of that agenda. Sorry but it seems like the same play from the previous board with different actors. I wish they would just pause for a second to think things through. Again, just my opinion.

Sorry I contributed to the digression from your intent. We all need to pay more attention to the topic. Thanks for all your efforts to keep members informed.

It's difficult to be perfect. reread page 2. Jean went off topic, you went off topic. Just maybe the few regulars who actually post here don't care about current events and concerts? Maybe those things should be in the TOSC newsletter and email blast. Trying to control/manipulate people usually doesn't work, well on this platform anyway. In a FB group all the admin has to do is hit a button and poof, the person he/she doesn't like is gone! On ND same thing. Please stop "tattling", copy/pasting and state your own opinions. As it stands now TOSC is not a good site for people who must be in complete control........yet. I would bet my last coffee pod someone is working to change that, and free speech will be a thing of the past here too.

I won’t be paying for a flight to Az. to attend any of these meetings. This sun bird may GO when temperature is higher, say like 115 degrees!
