    Hey - gilmark....Here it is -

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia --

Caretaker usually refers to one of the following:
    a chocolate bar
    British word for janitor
Property caretaker, a person who cares for a property
    Caretaker government, a temporary government
A person who takes care of another in the general sense or in the sense of a caregiver or looks after someone who is severely physically disabled and/or mentally ill and is not able to care for themselves (US) /

    - A Candy Bar ? ? ? ?
    Never heard of that ..

Janitor and/or taking care of property would have been my guess on the meaning of the word Caretaker. As you can see, caretaker is also used for Caregiver..... and caretaker of the government ? - - o.k.

    :pride:

It began when Politically Correct words started to be used. But British nurses still use caretaker I think.

Maybe that caretaker chocolate bar is British in origin, since they still use the word.

I love the saying, "Today is the first day of the rest of your life." Is there something you aren't doing today that you will regret a year from now--or even tomorrow?

You were a good daughter Anita! I think to deal with Alzheimer's on top of everything else would have done me in and I give you much praise for hanging in there. My mom only had dementia, which I suspect is more common towards the end than not. She did not know me at the end and that was hard, but she was happy and that mattered most. I would also do it all over again and I still miss her every day.

Today's Inspiration: "Insist that the people around you be civil and respectful of al beings. Insist that they stop already with the jokes (or synical comments) that aren't funny and the compliments that compliment no one." Rachel Synder

Some posts have taken on a synical nature, which can be interpretated as rude. I wouldn't say posts are inappropriate, but some are not necessary to carry on the message and intent of the thread. Social posting is done quickly. Everyone should re-read their message before hitting the post button to make sure what they wrote is what they mean to say. Thanks for asking.

No need for anyone to apologize. Just a "for your information" opportunity.

I think this is by far the most civil group I have run into on the internet. Have not taken any post as rude. We must always check ourselves however before posting..or put a smiley face on it.

Yes, the group is by far civil and informative. Thanks for lifting that up!

Yes, the spirit here is SO much more civil than the old NewsZap was (haven't been back since they rearranged it, but from the often crabby stuff reprinted in The Independent I don't see a difference in tone in a lot of the posts). I like constructive criticism since if someone can't figure out a suggestion for making something better, than there's little to be gained by just crabbing.
I like the "edit" feature here and have been using it to add on to an old post with some additional info or fixing a typo I discovered. It can also help keep threads tidier as you can add to something you already had without adding a new post. I like how it also allows you to explain what/why you edited.
I like the advice in the quote chosen gilmark, and Fiona, you're right about those smiley faces. I didn't know there were so many to choose from until I clicked on the smile at the menu bar and saw how many others there are--helps give a tone that is sometimes difficult to express with writing.

Inspiration today from Author Greg Anderson who penned this after being diagnosed with cancer and a 30-day life expectancy. Through his own efforts he lived and established the Wellness Institute!
    1. Life's joy, not its length, is the measure of wellness.
    2. We are in charge of our wellness.
    3. Wellness demands health of body, mind, and spirit.
    4. To be well, keep physically and mentally active.
    5. Eat for nourishment and enjoyment, not compensation.
    6. When ill, seek the least-invasive medical treatment.
    7. Stress aggrates illness, so control your response to your symptoms.
    8. Acknowledge your emotions, but don't get stuck with negatives ones.
    9. You already have everything in your life to be happy.
    10. Respect human dignity in yourself and in all others.
    11. Deal with others in such a way that no one loses and everyone wins.
    12. Abandon regret for the past and anxiety about the future. Live in the present.

It is six months until Christmas Eve. How has the celebration of this event changed as you've grown more mature? I have learned to love the silence of Christmas Eve. I used to love having my whole family with me, sitting side by side at church for the candlelight service, but now it is okay if they can't come. I know that they are by me in thought and with love in my heart.

Let us all remember the REASON FOR THE SEASON ! Christmas ! Years ago, when I was growing up --
it was always "Merry Christmas"...Now it is "Happy Holidays"...
used to be "Christmas Break" -- now it is "Winter Break"...
To each his own and everyone has their own opinions on this subject. ... and with that said --"And to all a Good Night"

A Sun City possibility: "Do your little bit of good where you are; it's those little bit of good put together that overwhelm the world." --Archbishop Desmond Tutu.

Holy smokes, Christmas is just around the corner. I gave up the rat race of running around like crazy shopping for gifts after the kids matured, or close enough now. We celebrate still with family, company and good food. I love Christmas but it has become more quiet now, less crazy and far less stressful in our home and this year there will be no decorating a tree, but maybe a palm outside instead. It will always be Merry Christmas in my house.

What we can learn as we grow more set in our ways:

"An eagle does three things every day. She sits on her roost, flaps her wings, and soars. Roosting or sitting on a branch is the safest activity. The perch provides both a place for rest and an observation post for hunting. Before she flaps her wings, either to hunt or to soar, she must let go of her steel-trap grip on the branch.
Flapping her powerful wings is a sight to see! The action seems so effortless, yet it takes a great deal of energy and skill to lift her body well above the earth.
Soaring is what makes an eagle an eagle—gracefully moving in ever-widening circles. Yet, before she soars, she must do one thing: Stop flapping. The eagle can’t flap and soar at the same time."
    What are you doing today?

This morning (as every morning) I have spent a couple of hours in my screen porch (with misters and a fan) enjoying the birds and bunnies. I'm encouraged when I see new life...especially in the little quail running around like cotton balls floating in a breeze. Sometimes we need to be like those little birds and let our thoughts of how blessed we are flow in the breeze. Have a good day!
