FANS, DOGS & PEOPLE BEHAVING BADLY RCSC GM D’LUZANSKY SPEAKS OUT‼️ (At the Exchange 2.12.24) “Well here we are on the downhill side of winter, enjoying another spectacular Sun City Season. We are also at the highest population point of our fine location, and perhaps this causes stress and leads to less than optimal behavior on the part of some members of our community. You may have heard me say, we are focused on putting our new Mission, Vision, and Values into practice. Spending time, attention, and resources where it makes sense, to improve as much as possible, as soon as possible, for the members, the staff, and the corporation. Our goal is to continue to use logic and reason, to make the best decisions every day, thinking through how to balance the good of the community, the corporation, the members, various clubs and groups. I do not wake up in the morning and decide to remove the fans controls in fitness, or consider shutting down Duffeeland Dog Park for a spell to figure out how to make it safer, or any past and future things that may rile some people up. We try to be forward thinking and head problems off at the pass, but often we have to react to situations that arise from people behaving badly. Many things, once they are known, fall into the category of having an obligation to act. There is no malevolent intent or secret plan a foot, to make people cold or change the requirements for the dog park. I love Sun City, and am enjoying the opportunity rich environment that provides me with challenges and smiles all day long. Changes will continue, and changes can be difficult. But we cannot tolerate change being used as an excuse for disrespectful and rude behavior and language, anywhere, anytime. Please do not exhibit rude behavior or use inappropriate language directed toward any RCSC staff that are here to help you, to serve you, to make Sun City a wonderful place. - Matthew D” Published in today’s RCSC Your Sun City AZ Week - February 18-25 HERE: https://mailchi.mp/44c8847960e9/your-sun-city-az-week-913-to-7514778?e=f18f779945 VIEW THE VIDEO: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCdLy0Uy9sKWCJNLz37tn5ug
For all of you who see the new GM as some sort of ogre, i quickly came to see him as just the opposite. The challenges for the RCSC are massive: 125 clubs, 300,000 square feet of covered air conditioned spaces, 8 golf courses, 8 rec centers and multiple grounds that include a lake, a softball field and an outdoor amphitheater with 450 employees. I've/we've watched it being run poorly for too many years. We are all paying the price. Sorry, but when there is 20 million dollars in deferred maintenance, 15 year-old technology, golf courses that need an infusion of cash and wage rates that can't keep employees, we see the problems up close and personal. It's what i call, "big picture" Sun City. Most living here see "small picture" Sun City. Their sphere of exposure is what they see and the rest of the stuff doesn't exist. I watched Matthew closely the first several months and was blown away by two things: His attention to detail and more importantly his willingness to take actions. That was all compounded by the board asking members for their input. The challenge is when members who speak out on a given topic think what they have said is that they are the only ones speaking. I can tell you Duffeeland has been problematic for years. The history of the park (since the RCSC bought it circa 2012) has been rife with challenges. The closest it came to being fixed was when a voluntary club was formed and those running it stayed on top of the problems. Even then it wasn't perfect. It was better, but dog parks are inherent with issues that never fully go away. Even when they bought it, we understood it would be difficult. He mentioned the fans in the gyms. Back when i worked out, i used to question why the temperatures were set in the 60's. I was told that was what members requested. Then when members had access to large overhead fan controls and set them on high, i found myself being unable to work out on the machines on either side of the ones with the fans on. I always liked a good sweat. The point is, for every person wanting cold temps and blasting fans, there's others who want just the opposite. Who should win? How do you make differing ideas be the right way? Members don't see the comment cards, they don't have to deal with the multitude of complaints and flood of emails, nor do they deal with the reports of abuse from card holders nor the claims of members submitting incident reports. You/we have no idea how many insurance claims are generated from the various amenities the RCSC oversees. Suffice to say, it's better if we don't know as it really isn't any of our business. My only point is it is all part and parcel with the decisions that management has to make on a day to day basis. I have long argued abandoning the slogan "The City Of Volunteers" was a horrible idea. Telling people to come here and just have fun, and giving them no sense of ownership, so sense of responsibility and refusing to hold management accountable sent Sun City in a direction that was in direct contrast to how we were built and why we were so successful. Clawing it back will be slow and painful. The one thing we know for sure; it will not happen by ignoring the problems and pretending everything is right when in reality it isn't. The stun gun incident at Duffeeland was just the trigger for taking action. For those of you moaning about it, be proactive and go the meeting. The park needs viable solutions and they won't come by pissing and moaning on social media sites.
so the members/residents have to suffer for the ignorance of past boards? 20 mil worth? weren't you on the board? i am so tired of hearing about past boards. why don't we hear what those who were active participants during that period of time did to circumvent the problem? Want a good sweat? Go for a run in July.
Well, they are already videotaping at the rec centers with the ability to use any footage as they see fit without consent of the person being taped. We might as well let RCSC monitor the whole city. It's laughable now. ?Adults? having issues at a dog park, RCSC wanting to lock up the dog park, people bitching about dog walkers dumping poop in their trash can ad nauseum on social media without even asking the poop offender to please stop. BOD putting the town in jeopardy to the tune of 20 mil and those that knew about it said/did nothing! It's a giant goat rope. Google it.
They have no capacity for it at the dog park. We've been arguing to install cameras for years, they can't. By the way, anyone annoyed by posters and their comments can simply click on their name and hit the ignore button. It works wonders.
Yes, they can. I am sure you have done that with me because we don't see eye to eye on so many things and folks who disagree with you are not well received. You will do very well with your blog where you will have complete control. I have to admit I am curious about how many will be attracted with story after story about Sun City and its beginnings.
Why can't it just go back to the way it was before the powers that be started to control it? It was a fun place, we all brought grocery bags for the dog poop as well a paper towels and our own bowls. We were all considerate of the double door system to keep our pups safe. Sometimes I went there twice a day. The only issue I can recall was a person who used an electric scooter who had a Belgian Malinois puppy that was in desperate need of an outlet for her energy and some training.
Why do you consider video surveillance a negative. If you or your dog is assaulted/injured at the DP you might be thankful there is video... just as I'm sure you would if your car was damaged/stolen in front of your home or in a store's parking lot. Big Brother (a la Orwell's 1984) became a mantra for loss of personal freedoms. AZ statutes allow such recording without permission... and FWIW, IMHO the only freedoms video at the DP could affect is one's ability to avoid responsibility for violating the rules and/or somehow not taking responsibility for their/their dog's actions. Video surveillance has probably exonerated as many people as it has found guilty... you just never hear about the exonerations. Just say'in.
OK. there is a recent thread here about video cams at the rec centers. Maybe you should find and read. Also state laws vary. AZ revised statutes do not allow. just say'in . https://codes.findlaw.com/az/title-... to disclose, knowledge of the person depicted.
Perhaps you should have read the statute first? Arizona Revised Statutes Title 13. Criminal Code § 13-3019. SECTION C: This section does not apply to: 1. Photographing, videotaping, filming or digitally recording for security purposes if notice of the use of photographing, videotaping, filming or digital recording equipment is clearly posted in the location and the location is one in which the person has a reasonable expectation of privacy. 2. Photographing, videotaping, filming or digitally recording by correctional officials for security reasons or in connection with the investigation of alleged misconduct of persons on the premises of a jail or prison. 3. Photographing, videotaping, filming or digitally recording by law enforcement officers pursuant to an investigation, which is otherwise lawful.
I did read it. Several of us had this conversation in one of the threads here a while ago, and you may have commented. RCSC posts signs re video taping at board meetings. There are no signs at rec centers. Also if they are going to publish identifiable images of a person they have to have consent. That is what RCSC did. The exception to the rule is government property where, as we now know anything goes, like the video of two people having sex inside the senate hearing room which was deemed not a crime.
