They really need to do a better job of updating the changes that get made.

I wouldn't call it a disaster, but I agree with Larry that Management should be included every step of the way especially when we have staff with the necessary background. I learned long ago that as a lay person, my ideas and opinions are only valid if they are backed up with professional advice.

Too many members unavailable with holiday so close, and management team working on all of their year end responsibilities we determined the Jan 11 date allowed time to be better prepared.

This is the vacuum we are being asked to operate within. Who is on first?

I'm not pointing fingers because $hit Happens but, committees have to send their memorandums/summaries into the corporate headquarters within 3 days where they are reviewed and sometimes edited. I would bet that those meeting summaries reported that a vote was taken to not have the December meeting, so it seems to me that either the corporate office didn't convey the information to whomever posts the weekly email blast or the person who posts the blast didn't check with the corporate office!?!?!

Some members of this Board seems to have an aversion to meeting with the management team. I don't get it. The GM is their employee, but that doesn't preclude them to meeting with the GM together with senior members of the team about key issues. It's called "communication" as well as team building.

I've said it before: the RCSC needs Board training from a third party professional that provides this type of service for nonprofit organizations. Board members need to be assigned to committees where their expertise fits, and not be overwhelmed with too many assignments, just because they "want to be" everywhere.

Personally, if we're going to use Roberts Rules, then we better have a Parliamentarian that knows the rules sitting on the dias, and also reviews motions before they are added to the agenda. I don't understand why the Board continues to resist work sessions. They are not illegal as long as they are not making decisions about policy, personnel, etc. Again, Board training!

We are just going to keep spinning our wheels if things don't change.

    Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays

I'm always fascinated by those most critical. The best way to fix all of the problems they can identify is to raise your hand and help change it. Just saying bro, run for the board and make a difference.

Change the rules and I would consider it. I’m not in Sun City all summer.

The culture changed this year into an Us vs. Them attitude. The "member movement" or whatever you call it was misconstrued and many made a clear disassociation with rec center staff with an "I'll Show You." This attitude has shrunk so low to be brushed on to custodians and rec staff. I have witnessed horrible mistreatment of staff while at rec centers and in the member service office. Somewhere along the way staff was deemed unnecessary or incompetent or both which makes virtually no sense. We need their help and ego should never get in the way of listening to those with knowledge and experience.

I would love to see them relax the rules to allow those who go away for at least part of the summer to run. The fact they can attend remotely certainly helps that idea along. I guess the bigger question is for how long? The old six and six probably wouldn't work, but 3 or 4 months might be doable.

While some may try and tamper down my enthusiasm, it won't be happening anytime soon. The good stuff will keep on keeping on in spite of the handful of naysayers and whiners.
