'Twas the night before election And all through the city. There were members upon members Shaking their heads - what a pity. The board seems to have No regard for its members. At least not like Del and John did Who’s here to remember? The “city” was created With community in mind. But observing their actions That’s not what you’ll find. Saving money in reserves Is the cry of the GM. While clubs go without And spirits descend. But this year there’s hope A new team is in town. To bring back that spirit, Let us all rebound! Vote Totten! Vote Fast! Vote Collins! Just like that. Working together And patching the rifts, Soon we’ll be back To the community that we've missed. Remember our Articles And our Bylaws, too. Don’t forget our members Who all pay the bills. Tomorrow there’s hope For a brand-new start. Online or in person, Follow your heart. Wrapping this up In closing I’ll say Totten, Fast and Collins Will be sure to make your day! Don’t forget to Vote! A huge thank you to all who have put their faith in us. Jean M. Totten is One Day At A Time (I won't quit my day job to become a poet, I promise!!)
Very cool Jean. Got me thinking about Del's words they used to market and sell Sun City: "Concrete, steel and lumber can make the buildings, but people make the community. Together we can realize a way of life unprecedented in America." What it didn't say, but now it should read: "Concrete, steel and lumber can make the buildings, but the general manager and 5 board members make the community. Together we can realize a way of life unprecedented in America." There's been a standard in this community by most former board and committee members once they leave to stay quiet and on the sidelines. All of us who have given freely of our time, hate the idea of being critical of the community we love. I know i have been the exception to that rule, but with tomorrow's vote looming, it's time to stop pretending everything is just hunky-dory. It's not. There's been so many bad things going on, wrong on so many levels and their efforts to just act as if they are normal have turned lots of heads. The simply reality of Sun City, most living here pay little or no attention. Ignorance may well be bliss, but from a community perspective, it's turning us into just another housing development. It's what happens when we become a business rather than a community.
Now is the time to amend the Jan Ek Oath of Office swearing fealty to the Corporation and return the Oath of Office to fealty to the membership and remind the Board that they are First among Equals (Sun City Membership) and accountable to the Membership only not the GM and his staff.
