I was stunned to see it, literally stunned. I guess i shouldn't have been. Though Rich Hoffer and i didn't always agree on direction, we both understood we had the same outcomes in mind. We both wanted Sun City to flourish and prosper.

I endorsed Rich in both his runs for the board. He was responsible for restoring the long range planning committee and for convincing the previous general manager to video record board meetings. Both have served us well and he was the driving force behind both.

Jean Totten, a board candidate the Sun City Advocates are supporting (along with John Fast and Steve Collins) has a facebook page called iluvsuncity. She has been reaching out to members for months now and the other day she mentioned the RCSC budgeting process and the challenges and shortfalls from it.

Rich Hoffer served nearly 7 years (if memory serves me) on the board and has a working knowledge of the RCSC better than most. He posted the comment below and with his permission, we are reposting it here:

"Yes, I've read the budget. There is NO use for a $29 increase or ANY increase as long as you've got a $10 million plus carry forward. As someone that was president of the RCSC Board when we last raised assessments back in 2017, I can tell you I am not afraid of raising rates. It has to happen sooner or later. But to do it while you are sitting on that kind of cash is not only stupid, it's criminal. There is no need for that increase. And yes, I voted for the $22 increase back in 2017 because of the state minimum wage law kicking in. There's nothing to call for this increase. And the overall budget is in line. I don't have a problem with the rest of it!"

I have nothing to add that could be more compelling an argument. He said it all.

If the RCSC is going to continue to overload the Cash Reserve, then perhaps they should just cancel all their full-replacement cost insurance policies and place those premium payments into the Cash Reserve? What the heck! Seems like we can soon rebuild and replace every Rec Center and all at the same time by simply using the Cash Reserve?

I'm joking of course, but when you have a GM who believes in belts and suspenders, something has to give! We are, after all, a non-profit!

As mentioned before, if the increase in the assessment is simply to help the GM sleep at night and it's not going to be used to repair, purchase or build amenities based on the Club's requests, then NO!

I'll try man and I don't give a shit what you guys think about what I chime in on. You bring up the roof collapse at sundial. What would have happened had a number of people been killed when that happened or severely injured? No money on hand insurance company want to fight everything what would you do a scenario only thank God! Would Sun City have gone bankrupt? And by the way, who cares what blowhoff has to say! Again on this website it's the same whiners. Bill you should have run for office partner but you didn't. Trying to stack the board's not going to work somebody will fold or they'll be kicked to the curb. You have such a hatred for golf you've pissed off the whole golf community the handful that are whining about tee times are the ones that just can't get that specific tee time no matter if it be 2:00 8:00 a.m. 12:00 it doesn't matter it's just something to bitch about. I will agree with one thing though, there are a lot of new people in Sun City and they question what the hell are you guys doing except making fools out of yourself. Again the newbies coming in want to change everything good luck with that live here for 10 years 15 years then maybe you'll have a voice go out and volunteer. Get to know your neighbor.

Wow say what, your words are "interesting." I should have run, but everyone in the golf community hates me because i hate golf. I've written it a hundred times say what; "Sun City is a golfing community and it always will be." My question invariably becomes, at what cost?"

I'll post a picture on the Facebook page i am an administer for with the golf pricing at the North course in 1960. 18 holes during the week day were $2.65 and weekends were $3.50. There was one course to chose from. 62 years later, members buying full play passes and playing 300 rounds per year are paying $5.25 per round and they have 8 courses they can play. Does that make any sense to you?

More importantly we are selling even more full play passes to non-residents. The $250 price increase did nothing because realistically it's the cheapest golf in Arizona. I know people who live in Sun City West and buy the full play pass here. Does that make any sense to you?

Finally, in the 20 years i have lived in Sun City we have paid $4250.00 into PIF. We've paid our yearly assessment since 1999, when we purchased our home. If i step on any regulation golf course between November and April, i will pay $35 per round, while the guy living in Peoria buying the full play pass is averaging a little over $20 per round. Does that make any sense to you?

Easy freaking questions say what, can you man up and answer them?
