I sometimes wonder if people fear the unknown as if they will lose their own identity when finding out more about someone else's culture, lifestyle, beliefs. I love to talk to people everywhere I go to get inside their head for a few minutes--what makes them tick...where they have been in their life and where are they going with it. I have met the most amazing people--diverse in socio-economic status, culture, religious beliefs (include agnostic and atheist), and then there is the gifts and talents people bring with them to Sun City that is beyond amazing. I love this about Sun City. How fortunate that a farm girl from Iowa can now be surrounded by people who can share with me their world!
I have met sooooo many interesting people in Sun City. We seem to be able to talk religion, politics, etc. without any problem. I am always interested in finding out where people are from and where they lived and what they did "before Sun City". Everyone has a story and many are very interesting. Here in Sun City Original we just enjoy each other.
I have relatives in Aiken, SC. and have often visited them. I hesitate to say this, but will the south ever realize that they lost the war?
Having lived 7 years in Marietta, GA......they convinced me the answer to that is NO. But seriously, that is part of the charm of the southern states.....they have their own history and they're stickin' to it. I did not always agree with my southern friends and co-workers (I worked for the GA State Government) but I surely admired their knowledge of their history their allegiance to their home states.
