    Question:

Why does the June Agenda call for the second reading of Director Lenefsky's motion to purchase the Modern Fitness Approach equipment when the second reading already took place at the April 28th Board meeting?

Not only that, but when Director Lenefsky first made the motion at the March meeting, there was no dollar amount attached to the motion. There is now a $125,000 maximum limit on the cost.

I'm thinking that when the dollar amount was added at the April meeting, that should have been and was actually the first reading because once the dollar amount was added, it actually changed the scope of the original motion where no limit on cost was established.

Just a technicality I guess? But I'm watching!

Good question FYI. Following last months meeting i went up to Dale and asked her about her comment regarding the fact the motion that was passed the meeting before that didn't include it being in the 2023 budget. I said it didn't and that was the very argument within the board and they supported passing the motion without being shuffled off to 2023 as requested by Bill Cook. I told her point blank she can't amend a motion that has passed by simply telling us it was a mistake. It wasn't a mistake at all.

It will be interesting to see if board members waffle on this. The long range planning committee requested it be done this year and not wait till 2023. If you look back, following that meeting, you will see i complimented the board on supporting the LRPC and then wondered aloud who would hold the gm's feet to the fire to get it done. If you recall, he said they were way too busy to do it this year.

What Cook meant, “ I do not approve! We will not do it now! Have to wait until ‘23 budget.”
Yet, somehow off-duty security is magically in place for Grand and Oakwood rec centers and Lakeview tennis courts offered to become Pickleball courts, etc.

I attended the Long Range Planning Committee meeting the other day and right in their minutes from the May 16th meeting that were read and approved, it stated: "Fitness equipment update: It was noted that the motion to approve the trial of updated fitness equipment passed the second reading of the Board of Directors." They are so busy concentrating on the train leaving the station that they can't seem to keep their business correct and updated.

The Board lacks continuity. Different factions with opposing agendas! Everybody is headed in a different direction makes it impossible to keep track of anything?

This board can approve spending $40 million on Mountainview at a drop of a hat but can’t spend $125,000 for new gym equipment? Mind boggling.

It is interesting Larry. Not sure why the motion is back on the table, it passed 2 months ago the second reading. Last month the president made some awkward comments about it passing in error. I went up and questioned her after the meeting and she was less than candid about what she was trying to say. When reading the minutes from the month before you can't just oops, we made a mistake. If there was an error in what was written versus was was passed, that need to be clarified. The board passed the second reading to buy the trial equipment this year, not shovel if off to the 2023 budget year. It was clear; hopefully they aren't trying to change the recommendation from the long range planning committee.

Speaking of which, there is a motion on the floor to spend 50k on ASU doing a survey. I saw the survey the long range planning committee spent more than a year on (2019) and it was really well done. It wasn't happy feel good crap, they drilled down into details and were asking solid questions. Why would we piss away 50k, before we give the committee's efforts a chance to see what kind of responses we got?

I kinda suspect that the reason was the $125,000 limit was not in the original motion made by Director Lenefsky? Once that dollar amount was added it changed the original scope of notice. Those who voted for the motion with no limit on cost may have changed their minds once the limit was introduced, therefore, the motion really needed to be voted on and passed twice.

Not to mention, the correct motion is to amend something previously adopted.

    Just my opinion!

I’m gonna guess that the board and GM read the report and didn’t like what it said… So bury the report and hope the next one coincides with their agenda. Just spitballin’

Tomorrow will be interesting, on any number of levels. Hopefully FYI is right about having to vote again because of the dollar amount. I am suspect, given the presidents comments at the last board meeting. Like i mentioned before, when i asked her about it, she was garbled at best in her response. I pointed out the board passed the motion coming from the long range planning committee is spite of the general manager objecting to it. Sadly, i pay attention to this stuff and quickly went out and saluted those who voted for the motion to buy the new equipment without waiting till budget year 2023. It did trigger the questions; when would this get done? What would the solution be if we got to the end of the year and the gm just never got to it?

Another item on the agenda is from Director Collins. He is making a motion to do a couple of things regarding outside play on our golf courses. The first is to increase the cost of outside play, although personally i don't think it is high enough, but he also added no golf car included. That means every time they play, they need to either walk or rent a car at the rate residents pay to rent a golf car. More importantly, the outside full play wouldn't get into the lottery using our web portal as early as our RCSC golfing members. That is huge. The general manger freely admitted that members don't always get the tee times they want and even if the the non-members weren't in the lottery, they still wouldn't. Taking those 10,000 t0 12,000 rounds out of the lottery will insure members have access first.

Let me conclude with these thoughts and i will speak in favor of Steve's motion and use the direct quotes from the Sun City West annual membership meeting. Their general manager stated quite clearly, Sun City West in 2021 took in nearly 2.5 million dollars in outside play. It was critical to their golf operations which even with that, subsidizes golf. The bigger point he made was two-fold; non-members never pay less than members, never; and, they never bump members out of the lottery draw, they access open tee times after members have their lottery positions assigned. HUGE difference.

The meeting begins in less than two hours, lots of motions. We'll review the board's actions this afternoon with my thoughts and concerns. Hoping for the best, expecting the worst.

    We'll see eh?

It will be there, they save those failures for the big show so they can protect the attorney...or at least try to.
Somebody from management should let Heinton know there is a video recording of him out there. BTW, they never announced no recording was allowed. Just check the recording and you'll see, oh wait, they don't have a copy.
