BP, has this ever happened before? All of our efforts have paid off. At least we have gotten their attention. Moving the registration up is also a good thing. The by-law changes were all right on. I still have not heard about my validated proxies. What was the quorum that they met in 2009?

I would like to see Committee summary status reports as part of the agenda and recognition of member volunteers for these committees.

I would like to see someone recommend a moratorium on ANY bylaw changes. They have been changed so much that they are no longer recognizable as the bylaws first implemented. They have been purposely changed to prohibit ANY interaction with the board. The board at this point is nothing more than puppets to the GM. They cannot and will not think for themselves.

The agenda is already set, SCR. Did you get your blast email this am? There are 4 items: Petitions, Quorum, Revising Articles to include due process, and amend Annual Membership meeting rules.

Damn gang, when i awoke this morning i felt like i was watching Miracle On 34th Street all over again. You know the scene where the attorney demands proof of Santa Claus and in comes marching 30 postal carriers filled with sacks of mail to the North Pole. Almost brought a tear to my eye. I've been fighting this battle for 15 plus years and never got anywhere. The power structure refused to let it. The gm took ownership of Sun City and boards filled with golfers simply rubber stamped whatever she wanted.

This morning i posted a picture on the Facebook page of Sun City AZ Chat. I have been doing these photos every day for 6 or more months now. With each post i do a brief two paragraph story with it. This mornings was of the Poms around 1980 working out routines in one of the women's back yards. The point was clear, nothing in Sun City's development came free or without an enormous amount of effort by those of us living here. Our history is that powerful, that compelling.

In 2006, it was all wiped away. General managers never, NEVER had the power to control every outcome. The community documents didn't let them. The boards serving on the RCSC were unwilling to give away their responsibilities. It was always a relationship forged from the partnership between those elected and those who elected them. To be clear, there was always disagreements, at times down right anger. Through it all, the community always had a voice, they were never quieted.

Almost everyone understood decisions made by the community would be better than those made by a committee of one and endorsed by a board looking to spend less time doing their job. During that 15 years, we watched as the community's documents were shredded. The checks and balances written in to them disappeared and boards said nary a word. Over the years, agreements made with the community were also kicked to the curb. Who cares if you spend 2 million dollars a year on golf that was never shared with the community? Who cared if the grandfathering guaranteed by the board went away? Who cared if decisions that should have shared with and made by the community were never even talked about?

The best example i can give is this one. When the Lakes Club could have been purchased by the RCSC, Carole and i begged board members to allow the community to have a voice in the matter. It was a decision that should have been put in front of the owners to decide. The board and gm refused and simply argued if word got out, the price could go higher. It was bullshit the minute they told us that, it still is today.

Why does it matter? Had we purchased the Lakes Club, we would have a theater in the center of the community. Had we purchased the Lakes Club we would have all of the management of the RCSC in one location and no foolishness regarding a new two-story office building to house them. Card clubs with their own space. Dedicated classrooms for continuing education. A massive community center where everyone in the community could gather and sitting on the finest piece of property in all of Sun City.

Instead, we allowed the gm and the board of predominantly golfers, to put all of our eggs (and money) into the basket we lovingly know as golf. I don't hate golf, i hate the idea a single activity has become our focus at the cost of all others in Sun City. Imagine if we weren't talking about a 50 million dollar boon-doggle at Mountainview right now? Imagine if we were simply addressing how Mountainview could become purely a sporting center and adding amenities the community actually wants?

For the first time in a very long time, i feel every word i have written was worth it. Next Monday is just the start of a better Sun City. This idea the community should sit passively by while the gm and or the board make all the decisions is coming to an end. Sun City belongs to all of us...that is how it was built and why it was successful. It is time to return to it.
