What is the average speed limit on roads in Sun City? I've heard many use golf carts; must they follow the same speed limit as the cars? Thanks
I thought golf carts had to be limited to like 20 or 21 mph or they would need to be registered as a car or something?
If you want to drive your golf cart on the road, they can only be driven on roads 35 MPH or less. They are allowed to cross major intersections like Grand and Bell Rd, but they cannot be driven on those roads. By AZ law they must be registered to be driven on the road and you have to insure them, just like a car. Insurance rates on Golf carts can be as cheap as $20.00 for 6-month -- with only covering liability.
Exactly -- you would be surprised how many people come into our work once they get a letter from the AZ Motor Vehicle Division asking for proof of insurance. No insurance on a golf cart can lead to major problems down the road. Especially if you do nothing about insuring it.
The speed limits on most of our Sun City Streets is 30 mph. However, on streets like Boswell, Del Webb, Greenway - 103rd , etc. appear to be a outlet for getting easy access from Thunderbird to Bell, or Greenway - - and cars tend to go faster on those streets - -and I think that is not good ! ! Of course 99th is a faster speed limit - - I think 40 mph....but, again some folks tend to go faster. And I have seen those red light runners on 99th, also !
103rd is 25 mph and when I observe the speed limit, someone is always crawling right up to my bumper. What is the hurry? Most of us using the road are retired. Slow down...enjoy the scenery!
Hey Gilmark - -thanks for input on the 25mph on 103rd.....however, unfortunately -- a lot of us who use the roads in Sun City are not retired - - most of us are -- but check out what these drivers look like. I see many speeders on Boswell as well as 99th AVE. These are young folks not us retired-age folks. Even though - -a lot of retirees are also in a hurry ----to go to their favorite retiree get-togethers and events ...
