As nearby schools reopen in the coming weeks we seniors need to be more vigilant if we visit stores, restaurant, etc. where families/children are present. Masks, distancing, hand-washing are more important than ever.

"Two new studies, though from different parts of the world, have arrived at the same conclusion: that young children not only transmit SARS-CoV-2 (the virus that causesCovid-19) efficiently, but may be major drivers of the pandemic as well.

The first, which was published in The Lancet yesterday, reports findings from a pediatric hospital in Chicago, Illinois. The second, a preprint manuscript awaiting peer review, was conducted in the mountainous province of Trento, Italy..... If children from ages 5 to 17 are as, or possibly even more contagious than adults, then opening schools in areas where daily rates of infection remain moderate to high is extremely risky and unwise."

here's link to the Forbes article: link

And from the Indianapolis Star newspaper yesterday.... A Greenfield Central Junior High School student has tested positive for the coronavirus after the first day of class, according to an email sent to families Thursday evening. The student attended part of the first day of classes, which began Thursday for Greenfield-Central Community Schools.

Hey there Carptrash, nice card from some nice people. How great is that!

It would appear the tRump mantra of open the schools is being hailed by Ducey, did we think it would be any different? So we are to allow our children and families be the guinea pigs for whether or not Covid attacks and spreads through families? What makes Ducey think it will not cause harm to children, Demon Dreams?

Please let Ducey get some sense into his thick republican skull, children die too. How many will have to be sacrificed to the tRump demons before there is a realization this disease is deadly and kills? I do know until the cheeto colored moron is voted out, everyone is fair game for sacrifice, especially seniors and children. Lord help us all

I was reading this earlier today, and it just struck me as terribly saddening, considering our government wants to send everyone back to school and work. There is only one way to fight this virus and it is with masks and isolation. I am so grateful to not have school age children at this time in my life, as I know my family would not be leaving the house just to appease a grotesque wanna be dictator.

This week's national ensemble forecast predicts that weekly reports of new COVID-19 deaths may increase over the next month, with 5,000 to 11,000 new deaths reported during the week ending August 22. The ensemble forecast predicts that 168,000 to 182,000 total COVID-19 deaths will be reported by August 22.

Sadly, one of my teacher friends reported to school yesterday -- she said she arrived in the morning to find the Principal, Asst. Principal, and office staff unmasked. While they put masks on as more teachers arrived, it was a clear indication the school system wasn't taking the risks seriously, especially aerosol transmission. School-age kids may mostly be unaffected by CV but its proven they are carriers and, as such, they will take it home, infect their households, etc. These kids will send another wave of infections across AZ further delaying and semblance of economic recovery. I watched an interview yesterday where Trump said it wasn't valid to judge our death rate per capita as a measure of how well America is dealing with the pandemic. If statistics like that mean nothing to him then we are doomed. I guess I already knew that.

    Ran into this today.

"The inevitable fallout from last month’s Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, an annual event that packed nearly 500,000 people into a small town in South Dakota, is becoming clear, and the emerging picture is grim.

According to a new study, which tracked anonymized cellphone data from the rally, over 250,000 coronavirus cases have now been tied to the 10-day event, one of the largest to be held since the start of the pandemic. It drew motorcycle enthusiasts from around the country, many of whom were seen without face coverings inside crowded bars, restaurants, and other indoor establishments.

The explosion in cases, the study from the Germany-based IZA Institute of Labor Economics finds, is expected to reach $12 billion in public health costs."

Carptrash........info on Sturgis Motorcycle Rally is false. One of the many indicators is the simple time frames involved..check it out.

Thanks, I will. Later. But thank you for alerting me.
Slightly later, "The results of the IZA paper "do not align with what we know," South Dakota epidemiologist Joshua Clayton said at a Tuesday news briefing."

The impeached President didn't want the public to panic so he lied about the pandemic ..... he is ambivalent about 190,000 dead , ....as long as they didn't panic....

Fixj.......it would be helpful if you would use correct information when you want to influence others.

Not trying to influence others, just my observation after learning that Trump knew in February how serious the Coronavirus is and he has said he “downplayed” what he knew to avoid panic.
In a recent statement he referred to the increasing Coronavirus death count by saying , “it is what it is”. That seems to me to be dismissive and ambivalent.

What I have determined about 2020 is that no one is going to be able to influence anyone else about any thing. Not about the virus, not about politics, not about the weather, not about nothing. Everyone has already grabbed onto their safest ideas like a life jacket and is holding on for dear life and they are not about to let go. This includes me.

It's sad our culture has progressed to the point that this is predominantly true for a large portion of our society. To change one's mind requires they admit they were wrong. Far too many minds are closed to that possibility. Far to many believe that "their" view should prevail without the justifications of fact finding, discussion, negotiation, compromise.
