It ain't just Covid-19, stupid

El presidente bufón continues to languish in la la land believing he alone knows all. That certainly didn't work well for CV-19, and CV-19 isn't alone on the world stage of concern. Fortunately, in spite Trump's relentless marginalization of them, the CDC and the WHO continue to keep an eye on other viruses in the world that are potential threats to everyone's health and economy. Hopefully DJT's nationalistic obsession doesn't further erode the capabilities of these organizations in trying to protect humanity from a dynamic world of serious health concerns. Ebola, SARS, MERS, dengue fever, etc., etc., are all still lurking out there ...

195 countries make up the world. We're all connected economically, we share climate, resources, and disease. History hasn't been kind to those that chose to stand alone.

It is sad IC, that so many have bought into this panacea of promise and hope. Isolation as a country has never worked and it never will. Only the brain-dead see extremes as the answer. Speaking of extremes, has anyone paid attention to Mark Kelly's latest ad? Truly brilliant. Wouldn't that be something to have two US Senators from the state of Arizona. Especially if the senate goes blue. Given the trumpster's pathetic actions during the covid 19 debacle, it could well happen.

  3. Well BP, to paraphrase the great American philosopher, Yogi Berra, if people want to be stupid you can’t force them not to be. I find it funny that after 9/11, Americans accepted the TSA at airports, the Patriot Act which turns out an incredible assault on our civil liberties and fear monger in by the Bush Administration into endless wars. Somehow though a virus we do not understand the dynamics of, how it affects all age groups with no treatment, no vaccine and a president who believes that blaming China, idiotic cures not based in fact and wishing real hard that Tinkerbell will live and the virus will go away riding on the back of a unicorn is accepted.

Opening up with still rising death rates, a possible second wave.with virus mutation basically makes us just roadkill on his path to re-election. Is this what America really wants?

I do like Mark Kelly’s new ad and I believe that McSally is toast.

    Stay safe and stay in.

haven't seen a recent ad from Kelly but the Lincoln Project's 6-sec diss on McSally is just as good as their Mourning in America vid they released last week.

Watching international COVID stats is like watching reverse gold medals at the Olympics. So . . New cases today (yesterday?) Russia leads, followed by Brazil and then the USA. And we want to open everything up? Insane.

My money's on Brazil to win -- from the Lancet: " ...perhaps the biggest threat to Brazil's COVID-19 response is its president, Jair Bolsonaro.
When asked by journalists last week about the rapidly increasing numbers of COVID-19 cases, he responded: “So what? What do you want me to do?

(Bolsonaro) not only continues to sow confusion by openly flouting and discouraging the sensible measures of physical distancing and lockdown brought in by state governors and city mayors but has also lost two important and influential ministers in the past 3 weeks. ... Luiz Henrique Mandetta, the respected and well liked Health Minister, was sacked after a television interview, in which he strongly criticised Bolsonaro's actions and ... the removal of the head of Brazil's federal police by Bolsonaro, Justice Minister Sérgio Moro, one of the most powerful figures of the right-wing government..."

Even without the vacuum of political actions at federal level, Brazil would have a difficult time to combat COVID-19. About 13 million Brazilians live in favelas, often with more than three people per room and little access to clean water. Physical distancing and hygiene recommendations are near impossible to follow in these environments...

Well we are a long way from the finish line, but I think Russia heard us - so 10,000 new cases to the US & Brazil's 3 and 4 thousand.

Is the BOD meeting tomorrow morning, and if so is it a public meeting, or a private meeting?

If you're asking about the RCSC BOD, there is no meeting tomorrow. The meeting on 5/11 was cancelled and as yet no confirmation as to whether there will be a meeting on the 28th.

We're still hoping that even without members present the BOD can do a video to post on plans going on behind the scenes. There must be communications between the RCSC Management & the BOD which should be relayed to us members.

Sure, but the issue always seems to be, but do they want us to be privy to these discussions?

But they seem so happy. Now. Actually, a lot of these folks seem to have bandanas around their necks but it obviously is NOT cool to wear them, and as was said years ago, "It's better to look good than feel good."

Right now I'm listening to the Senate panel on COVID 19 and the elderly. There are some interesting issues. Apparently there is a big difference in what is being provided for LTC(Long Term Care) vs Assisted Living Facilities. Testing has been ramped up for Nursing Facilities but not Assisted Living. They encourage best practices, social distancing, home confinement and require masks for everyone. Assisted living facilities do not have to do the same data reporting as Long Term Care facilities. Elizabeth Warren is demanding that Assisted Living Facility report the same as LTC Facilities. McSally was worthless in her comments & questions.

I consider all of Sun City and Sun City West as senior living facilities even though we are independently living in our own homes. Did you know that our low populated neighbor Youngtown has 75 reported cases? That's huge. Where is the closest shopping for them? Sun City! It is just wrong that more isn't being done to enforce mask wearing to protect seniors in Sun City. We have to remain isolated in our homes because of the actions of those around us.

In this COVID list I use AZ has broken into the Top 10 states in "new cases" for "today" with over 400. Since today is still a work in progress who knows where we will end up but this is not a good sign.

If you are taking your health, and the health of others , seriously suggest you avoid Basha’s on Lake Pleasant Pkwy.
Less than half of the shoppers were masked, but the biggest concern was some employees not masked , others had a mask dangling from one ear or around their neck.
One old lady, unmasked, actually was eating grapes out of a bag she opened in the produce dept. ...then put it back without buying it.

The USA still leads the world in total deaths, new deaths and NEW CASES. Sounds like a great time to open the country up.

Basha's is child's play compared to this -- Port Aransas, Texas, on Saturday

Well the USA passed 100,000 deaths, another milestone, or is it a millstone?

The USA is being hard pressed by Brazil for the deaths gold medal but by opening the country up again we are giving ourselves a big advantage.
