In "Trump Speak" I'll predict in October 2020 this will be changed to....

"What I meant to say it was an aspirational statement that I HOPED it would be here by October 2020. The drug is HERE, but it just isn't available for use. An aspirational statement means that it could or could not be a true statement. I've been doing a fantastic job of predicting and it is just incredible the speed the drug is being formulated."

The corona wikipedian deaths in the USA just rose to 33, a recent one being a member of the House of Representatives in South Dakota. He was younger than me.

Gov. Dufus (Ducey) finally bowed to public pressure and has closed all hair and nail salons, barber shops, and other close contact businesses.

What I found interesting about his first set of closings was that it was done on one days notice. "We are closing these today" suggesting, to me, that there was zero forethought or planning involved. Closing salons now eems pretty much the same. Probably his Mrs. needed to get in one last round.

Trumpty Dumpty is again spouting opening up the country early to supposedly help the economy. On Twitter on March 30 he said “WE CANNOT LET THE CURE BE WORSE THAN THE PROBLEM ITSELF". He states that everyone wants to get back to work with absolutely no data to support that statement. He believes the economy will not recover.

The fact is, there has never been any pandemic, natural disaster, or terrorist attack that the US has not recovered from. The economy will recover from this pandemic.

Trumpty Dumpty's only reason to open things up is because his hotels and resorts are hemorrhaging money at the tune of 1 million a day.

If he is allowed to open the country up as he puts it, he will be putting thousands of lives at risk by restarting the covid19 virus in areas of the country that are already recovering as happened in 1918 with the Spanish Flu.

Please stay vigilant and follow all CDC guidelines. Wash hands frequently, avoid touching your face, stay at home if possible, do not hoard, and practice social distancing. Wear a face covering that is either disposable or washable.
If you shop at a super market, when you get home remove your items from the plastic bags in your garage or carport. Do not bring the plastic bag into your home. Best practice would be to place all plastic bags you get while shopping inside another plastic bag in your garage and dispose of on trash day. Items in your bags should be wiped down with disinfectant if possible. Wash produce for several minutes in cold water. When you shop, don't pick up any item you do not intend to buy. You have no idea who picked that item up before you and it is not acceptable for you to handle a product that you do not buy. Rubber gloves (if you can get them) may help stop the spread, but only if the gloves are used once and then thrown away. Disinfect your car door handles if you have been out in the public.

All this may sound extreme, but your life may be at stake if you are not overly cautious.

    Stay safe everyone.

I did the Sun City zip code lookup and found this information: Zip Code 85351 - 23 positive cases Zip Code 85373 - 6 to 10 positive cases

Stay Safe. Stay Inside. Stay Alive.

I'm doing the above not just for myself but for everyone.

For those of you looking to get out of the house in a pretty safe environment (as safe as Glendale ever is) there are the Saturday Driveway Concerts by the Social Distances, as seen (last Saturday) on Youtube,

Questions to those who care to respond.

These are questions that I think every American should be asking themselves.

What if anything have you learned regarding the handling of the current Covid19 pandemic?

Were we prepared as a nation and by state?

Is the economy more important than your life or health?

Are you following the CDC’s guidelines completely?

Are you wearing a face mask?

Which age group is going to the hospital more frequently with Covid19 and why?

Have retirees done a better job of social distancing?

Are retirees better prepared financially during the pandemic?

    Will the economy recover?

Is the spread of Covid19 under control?

Should the nation open back up as Trumpty Dumpty wants before May 1st?

One thing I have noticed since the Trump administrations new guidelines for opening the nation.

Went to the super market and noticed that fewer and fewer people are wearing masks. It appears the oldest
generation is still wearing them and the younger crowd is choosing not to already in anticipation of opening the country.

These and other questions come to mind and I have done my soul searching and come up with my own answers.

I would however like to hear others answers to the above questions.

Stay safe out there and don’t get complacent with social distancing and face masks.

    It’s not over.

I am tired of people bashing our president.
That's not what TalkofSunCity is about.
It's about the ins and outs of our great city.

    To quote Thumper,
"If you can't say something nice,
    Don't say nothing at all".

If people had bashed Obama, there would have been riots in the streets!

Riots because of a black president? Really. Look at the garbage that are protesting without masks or common sense. I thought the teabaggers were done with. Low IQ people follow low IQ ignorant leaders. You must have a problem with non-whites and non religious people.

  13. Well SCR, I have answers to the questions you posed but first I must response to pegmih’s post.

Sorry Peg but the president is responsible for this mess. He ignored intelligence briefings in November, fired the doctor in China that watched out for pandemics, never replaced her and cut the staff from 40 to 15. January found him basically lying to those ridiculous rallies saying it was a hoax ( one of his favorite words), Democrats were responsible somehow, there were few cases, it’s under control (it wasn’t), it would disappear (it hasn’t) amongst other things. February found him missing in action as the virus took hold. March finally found him doing something like appointing his VP to run the response holding laminated cards and saying we would have one million test kits the first week and five million each of the ensuing weeks. So VP Stiffy, where the frigging hell are they and why due you dodge questions on this with verbal diarrhea such on Meet The Press yesterday. The VP with the president are incompetent idiots. Valuable medical equipment was doled out according to how much you kissed the president’s ring or some body part. He has no leadership skills but is cruel, petty, vindictive, a failed businessman and accepts no responsibility for any of this (it’s always someone else’s fault). If you voted for this guy, you own him, he’s your Joe. History is not kind to disasters like this, ask Herbert Hoover how the Depression worked out for him for a second term? Just for the record, I did the math on the latest Covfefe 19 figures and the death rate is currently 5.5%, this highest in the world and rising. It was 4.8% on Friday. To paraphrase Bush II, you are doing a hell of a job Donnie. This pandemic is far from over.

I will post on your questions later. Facts are not biased.

Can't agree more! Pegmih obviously overlooked some highlights of the Trump Admin failings in the beginning...

    2018
    :
May Trump administration disbands pandemic response team in White House — “no senior administration official is now focused solely on global health security,” Washington Post
Sep Trump administration presented with the Obama-ordered plans for machine able to make 1.5 million N95 respirator masks a day during a pandemic. Machine never funded or built.

    2019
    :
Jul CDC epidemiologist embedded in the Chinese health authority quits when Trump administration announces it will eliminate the post amid trade war.
Jul FEMA’s National Threat and Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment for 2019 warns of pandemic risk, modeling an influenza outbreak that leads to “a shortage of medical supplies, equipment, beds, and healthcare workers as hospitals are quickly overwhelmed.”
Sep Trump administration ends funding for PREDICT — a U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) initiative to support laboratories abroad, including one in Wuhan, China, to be vigilant for viruses with pandemic potential.
Oct Confidential HHS draft report on Crimson Contagion documents failure: “Currently, there are insufficient funding sources designated for the federal Government to use in response to a severe influenza pandemic.” It warns the U.S. “lacks domestic manufacturing capacity for the production of sufficient quantities of personal protective equipment” and that “domestic supplies of on-hand stock of… N95 respirators, ventilators, and other ancillary medical supplies are limited and difficult to restock, because they are often manufactured overseas.”
Nov Secret briefing by U.S. military’s National Center for Medical Intelligence reportedly warns of a new contagion ripping through the Wuhan area of China.
Dec 31 Chinese officially report what will be known as COVID-19 in Wuhan.

    2020:
Jan 3 CDC and Chinese CDC begin talks about potential crisis.
Jan 7 Chinese scientists identify novel coronavirus, 2019-nCoV.
Jan 8 CDC alerts doctors to be vigilant for patients with respiratory symptoms who have traveled in Wuhan.
Jan 13 Chicago woman in her 60s arrives back in U.S. from Wuhan; will soon become ill (and become second U.S. patient identified).
Jan 15 Washington state man, 35, returns from travel in Wuhan infected with the coronavirus. This patient appears to have set off community spread — that went undetected in the Seattle area for weeks
Jan 16 German scientists produce a test for coronavirus that will become the World Health Organization’s (WHO) test, used across much of the world, but not in the United States. Trump refused because Germany wouldn't give him exclusive rights on it.
Jan 17 CDC launches “public health entry screening” at major airports. CDC offers the public reassurance: “The risk from 2019-nCoV to the American public is currently deemed to be low.”
Jan 18 HHS Secretary Azar, who had been alerted to the outbreak at the beginning of January, finally reaches Trump to talk about coronavirus. Instead, the president wants to talk about political fallout from administration’s flavored vape pen bans.

Jan 22 Asked if administration has “a plan to contain the coronavirus in the U.S.,” Trump replies: “We do have a plan, and we think it’s going to be handled very well. We’ve already handled it very well. CDC has been terrific. Very great professionals. And we’re in very good shape.” CDC announces its own coronavirus test. Informs the public: “Currently, testing must take place at CDC.” Trump praises Chinese response to the coronavirus on twitter. In interview from Davos, Trump asked: “Are there worries about a pandemic at this point?” Trump replies: “No, not it all. We have it totally under control. It’s one person coming in from China, and we have it under control. It’s going to be just fine.
The truth is, because of a lack of a functioning organization, coupled with Trump refusing to pay attention to daily briefings, the Trump Administration didn't react with substance for at least 60-days from the first alert.

And we are all well aware of deceit and pass-the-buck actions from that point forward intended to deflect his responsibility for not taking actions sooner via the traditional paths... CDC, NIH, and FEMA. The Army Corps of Engineers appear to be the only shining star in this cluster puck that is far from over.

  15. IC, thanks for filling in the blanks on my post.

These protests we are witnessing are astroturfs, funded by bat dung crazy right wing Republican groups. Evidently leading the charge is Betsy de Vos, failed Secretary of Education and basic idiot.
Obviously this clown car does not realize that if they fire up spreading the virus again and this thing is mutating and in late October this could be back even nastier. So we start over and we spend Thanksgiving and possibly Christmas eating a microwaved Hungry Man dinner in front of a computer on Skype with relatives.
    Happy Holidays!!!

“If you don’t listen, you feel.” My grandmother just before she spanked for misbehaving.

I am outraged by all the Arizona Trumpsters protesting at the Capitol in large groups without wearing masks or safe distancing. They do have the right to protest but should do it in a way to avoid spreading COVID 19. They may think COVID is fake, a hoax or just like flu but I don't want people close to me to die because of the protester's selfishness and ignorance. In two weeks we'll start seeing a new spike in numbers.

I love the analogy "You can't pee in the shallow end of the pool and not expect it to get to the deep end." All of these protesters are peeing in the large Arizona pool!!!

Okay....I know we're all bored and try to watch the daily briefings for actual scientific news. Just to make things interesting I made up various Bingo cards using the many catch phrases & words constantly used. It is agony watching the briefings but we watch until a winner calls "BRIEFING BINGO". The loser has to make dinner(or order out) that night!

Note: I am 0-3 so far.

Edited because sample of Bingo card was too large.

I suspect peg may not like the answers she has been getting, sorry about that peg. Seems some of us aren't enamored by the job "our" president has been doing.

It's funny, i had been planning on doing lots of writing during these times, but have found myself drained by what is going on around us. I spend countless hours each day reading articles and trying to grasp how the hell we got where we are at. I start each day with the news and then click on a half a dozen or more links with stories and commentary. It becomes repetitive as writers often tend to bog down stories with opinions and events start to run together. This morning on The Bulwark (a website run by never-trumpers) there was a timeline with little or no "filler."

The piece was by Tim Miller (who i truly enjoy) and is entitled: "
The Ten Weeks That Lost the War: A Timeline of How Trump Lied, Bungled and Screwed America in the COVID-19 Crisis.

Click on the header to read it. I rarely re-post but in this case i have made an exception. The timeline is an easy read tutorial and i defy any trump fan to refute it.

  19. Good timeline Bill.
    To really fill in the blanks, let’s add golf on 1/18 & 19, 2/1 & 15 and 3/7 & 8. Now let’s add in rallies on 1/9,14,28 & 30 along with 2/10, 19, 20, 21 and 28. Hell of a job Donnie.

    Facts are not biased.

There is one theory that says it doesn't really matter how we got to where we are at, what matters is how we get from here to where we want to be. In any case, I am getting my Thanksgiving Turkey now and freezing it for later. Bill, I hope that your timeline is continued. The only th8ing I didn't like was throwing Joe Biden in somewhere.
