It's true. I heard about it a week ago but elected not to post it. There's enough panic in the world without more bad news. But as long as you went there, today's electronic release from the Independent reported a death of a Sun City resident from Covid19 who was a member of the Bell Wood working club. If there was any good news in it, he hadn't been at the club for like three weeks before he died.

While we are chatting here, the website Nextdoor has several threads about the centers being closed. There are at least a couple of incidents where people were walking across parking lots and were confronted (in some cases rudely) by staff telling them to get off the property. I wasn't there so maybe people interpreted what they were told wrong. I would hope those "guarding" empty parking lots be civil about how they are addressing people. It's a tough enough time for everyone and being decent to one another shouldn't be that difficult.

I imagine some of the concern by staff has to do with discouraging the homeless. I and others have seen them come in facilities to use the restrooms (monitor station is on opposite side of restrooms at Fairway) and even the showers at Lakeview (monitor station is not near the entry door to weight room and showers there). Without the facilities open, they might decide to avail themselves of deserted areas, so sanitation may be an unmentioned concern.
Overall I really think security needs to be tightened up and people wandering our facilities now or when they reopen should be prepared to show their rec cards, and guests should be escorted or should be wearing some sort of guest or visitor's badge that is given out when their host signs them in with the punch card or a visitor signs in and leave an ID at a monitor station. When I came to tour our facilities as a visitor before I bought here I would've gladly left an ID for the privilege of touring the various rec centers and grounds....

I agree Jack about the lack of security at the Fairway Center. It has always amazed me that the sign-in desk is placed so far away from the entrance to the facility and has never been changed. Because the library is located inside that center you get a lot of traffic through the main doors. The non-cardholders have a restroom located inside the library, but there is no real control over them walking inside and using the member restrooms just down the hall. Maybe an employee might spot a person that doesn't look like they belong inside, but it is left to chance. Can a person walk in the main doors, hang a left and go directly to the showers/locker room? I can't remember the layout but I do know people can exit to the outside from the locker rooms without using the main doors.

Have the cards that allow members to unlock doors to the facilities been inactivated? Or, are they self-policing?

The place I notice that has non-cardholder traffic is the outdoor restrooms on the North Golf Course off 105th Avenue. I've seen vehicles parked there from utility trucks, landscaping services to mail carriers using the convenient restroom. If I was a golfer(not safe if they are still golfing in my opinion) I would not use that restroom as you don't know who has been in there and what germs are lingering.

Yep, Fairway just requires a sharp left away from the desk and if the monitors are busy, I would think it's fairly easy to just head to the showers.
I never knew there were cards to unlock doors--tell me more about that if you would.
I don't like the sound of what you mentioned about N. Golf Course. I don't golf but I had heard bathrooms had new locks with combos that were changed each day but that some folks were propping doors open anyway in protest of the annoyance and/or to purposely help the homeless....
