I have to laugh/cry every time one of these roll around and i promote attending. Let's get the details out of the way first. The meeting is scheduled for next Monday night, February 24 at the Sun Dial auditorium. refreshments and registration will start at 6 PM with the "meeting" starting at 6:30. It will include the years budget and an opportunity for those in attendance to ask questions of the board and management.

What it won't be is what saddens me. An official membership meeting would require 1250 card carrying members to be signed in. We have not met the quorum requirements since September of 2009. That was back in the days when a quorum was set a 100 and the membership meetings were held quarterly. It was changed in our community documents to "save us" from those seeking to harm the community.

It was just one of the many changes made that insured both board and management were insulated from blow-back from unpopular decisions. Just as an example, under the old structure, a motion could be made from the floor of a membership meeting for the board to reconsider the managements change in forcing members to use a punch to have their guests walk Meeker Mountain (Viewpoint lake hillside).

The net of the floor motion with adequate numbers (100) with more than a majority of them approving would have sent the motion back to the board to study the impact. The floor motion and vote would not have automatically changed anything. That's the way the by-laws were written.

Somehow, somewhere along the way the existing board got it in their head that wasn't really the case. Hate to be unkind, but it was a baloney argument that wiped out the opportunity for residents to have a more open voice in the process of self-governance.

With the history out of the way, i still encourage people to go. The presentation is well done, the question and answer period is wide open and you will leave with a better understanding of how Sun City operates. Sadly for me, i will not attend. I find myself at odds with the current direction and have become tired of asking the same questions with answers that defy logic.

Just a gentle reminder, tonight is the annual non-member meeting at the Sun Dial auditorium. It starts at 6:30 pm.

251 showed, no quorum, no annual meeting.

best questions from the members were re an indoor gym for basketball, volleyball, etc.
( even a rock climbing wall was suggested).

issue of requiring a guest pass for the lake is on the agenda for the next monthly meeting.

Thanks for the report fix. I heard the new CFO did a good job on the budget presentation. Not surprising in that i continue to hear good things all around on the job he is doing.

Dang, they just missed having a quorum eh?

Looking forward to the video of it. I heard the question and answer session got lively with at least one heated exchange.

The CFO’s budget presentation was to the point and well presented.
Just one heated exchange. Seemed inane to me.
It would seem to me the quorum issue could be resolve with proxies . Best idea of the night was throw a FREE party for members and squeeze in the meeting.
