Hello again, we are coming up on our one year anniversary of buying our retirement home in Sun City Arizona. My question is this when we closed on the house last year we paid the rec fee. My parents, who are living in our house, also purchased rec cards for ‘ renters they’re called privilege cards. So to the homeowners out there that are not living in your Sun City homes if your renters are paying the rec fee do you also have to pay the rec fee?

Julianna, when you pay your yearly assessment, this is for the two cards for the two deeded owners only. If there are others desiring to use the facilities, then those folks need to purchase privilege cards. In other words yes, you pay as well as the renters

I Was first told by someone at RCSC that as owners of the property we were not allowed to use the rec centers even when we turn 55 because we have my parents in the house that are paying the fee as well. I have since cleared this up through someone at the visitor center. But it does get confusing I was flat out told that because I was a homeowner I could not use the rec center even though I was paying the fee yearly because my parents were using it and paying.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but you will still have to pay the fee and, yes, due to your age, not be able to use the facilities. My comment was out of order earlier, as I did not know you were younger than 55. I so apologize for my statement, not knowing you are an underage purchaser. Not a bad thing, as you have purchased your piece of paradise, now you are just waiting for your time to become an active member of the community.

Are your parents using your rec card? This indeed would cause you to be unable to use your card in the future.

I meant to say even when I turn 55 I was told that I could not use the Rec centers as my parents had privilege cards.

Just to be clear, home owners who are of age (at least one of you 55) can use the centers even with others buying the privilege cards as long as you live more than 75 miles away. The rule was put in place to prevent over-crowding (their words, not mine). The argument was countless buyers would buy a property from Peoria and Surprise, rent their properties out and then flood the rec centers from out of the community. Apparently, double dipping (owners and renters both paying), is a one way street (owners and renters both using).

Of course there's the whole other discussion; legally married, both names on the title or not; but i get tired of trying to break that all down for potential buyers.
