Good to see the post C in the other thread; and with a picture and everything. Looks like you must be getting settled in eh?

For the uninitiated, Cynthia began posting years ago. If memory serves me, lived in California and was planning on buying in Florida. Then she stumbled across TOSC and began lurking/looking, and then regularly psoting. Something caught her eye and her fancy because she ended up buying in Sun City.

She bought a house on Dawn lake. Like many of us have done, kept working; longing for the day we could pull the plug and move in full time. Seems to me that was around or just after the first of this year.

So many posters have played around the fringe before moving in and then disappear to enjoy the Sun City way of life. Just curious, is Sun City everything you hoped for? Better or worse than expected? About a half a dozen new buyers over the last six months on the site, any advice for them?

I suppose I have settled in but not as I expected to be by this time. I arrived here in January ready to go and then sort of hit the breaks, not sure why. I joined the birding club but only went on one outing. I do work out in the gym most nights but other than that I’ve been off to a slower start than I’d imagined.

Maybe it’s the lake...it has a calming effect. I was busier after work when I was still working than I am now without work. Go figure. I don’t look at much social media anymore, including here on TOC. I could go on about my list of things I should be doing, that I’d planned to be doing. It’s almost as if I’ve taken a retirement drug:D:D :D. But I’m here enjoying myself anyway. Maybe I’ll awaken soon.

BTW, BP, do you work out at Sun Dial? It’s a small fitness area but there’s a guy who sort of looks like you. I’d ask him if he were you but he’s impenetrable, always running on the treadmill and focused on whatever’s on his earplugs.

As far as your questions. It’s difficult to separate how I think about living in SC vs how I think about retirement since both happened within two weeks. I worked hard everyday for 48 years and suddenly I’m not. Don’t misunderstand, I’m not unhappy about it at all. I don’t feel the need to work at all. And how could I anyway until the effects of this new retirement drug wears off.

One piece of advice...don’t do ALL of your remodeling until you’ve lived in your house a bit. Of course it needs to be livable, and I did many things before moving in, but I decided to wait on remodeling my kitchen until I saw how I functioned in the space. I’m so glad I did because I have some specific ideas now that I would not have had before. Of course it will be hell to remodel while living here so that’s the trade off. I know it doesn’t answer your questions because it’s not SC specific. Maybe after a year I’ll have something worthwhile to say.

Hey C, sounds like you are right on track. When we first moved in, we were astounded how the Sun City way of life took over. We owned the house 4 years before we could move in. Every time we visited we worked like maniacs to get as much done as possible. Once we were legally able to move in, the pace slowed to a crawl. Projects that would have been done in an hour of getting home sometimes took a week or a month. The sense of urgency was missing. Living a frantic lifestyle was replaced with a sense of calm.

Of course with every remodel project, that pretty much went out the window. Living through renovations is less than desirable. But you are spot on, know what you want before you start ripping out walls. Living in the house and getting a feel for what will work best takes times to sort through. As we wander Sun City streets with Sybil, it's clear many folks are perfectly contented with it just the way it came when DEVCO first built the community. It's what gives Sun City character.

Good thing you didn't go assault that guy at Sun Dial. I go to Bell every afternoon for my work outs. And, you know, all us old white guys look alike.
