Damn, how odd it feels to put on a sport coat and long pants. Gives me the shudders as it draws me back to those days where work was like the only thing that mattered. In reality, after being retired, one quickly comes to appreciate, work is way overrated. For anyone that has read my musings over the years, you know my favorite place in all of Sun City is the Del Webb Sun Cities Museum. That first model home is beyond cool and filled with the stuff that made us what we are today. A quick walk through is informative, but buried in the archives are volumes that most will never see. Last night at Palmbrook Country Club was their yearly fund raiser and it was a hoot. Short on content but long on entertainment made it special. No long boring speeches, a couple of very quick awards to SCHOA and PORA, a good meal and one hell of a keyboard player. Seriously folks, this lady was beyond belief. Nicole Pesce was sensational. No sheet music, no ipad as a cheat sheet, this young woman has a repertoire of 12,000 songs she plays off the top of her head. People call out songs and she plays them. If you ever get the chance, she is a must see for music lovers. If you aren't a member at the museum, or if you haven't stopped of late, then you may not be aware, they are getting an addition. Yup, out back will be another 600 or so square foot space for more display space and better yet for class room style lectures. They just signed the contract and work will be done by the fall opening. It is being funded in part by the Del Webb Foundation and of course by memberships and donations. If you aren't a member, you can join for as little as $25. And now with Don Tuffs and Paul Hermann as the new President and VP, they will be doing all kinds of out reach to those who do join. Don't take my word for it, if you haven't been to the museum, you absolutely need to see it in person. It's that darn good.
I am thrilled to hear of Paul Hermann joining the Museum staff. He is an exceptional ambassador for the Sun City area and can make anyone and everyone feel at ease whenever in his presence. I am elated to hear he is still in the business of making people feel welcome to our marvelous community.
Paul is a wonderful addition to the Museum Board. He worked his magic at this year's gala and you need watch the next several years as the museum expands its horizons. There's lots to do there, but there is so much to work with it almost beyond comprehension. The addition will be a great first step and allow them to do things they have never done in the past...but that is only the beginning.
We so enjoyed our tour of the museum. And I was even offered a job! Apparently I really researched Sun City before we bought our house last November! Haha.
Good on visiting and cool on the job offer. Too bad ya gotta go back to the frozen tundra. The museum is in the state of change and the next several years are going to be exciting and eye opening.
