Blogs to me are a fascinating study in human nature. We’ve watched this site go virtually silent from regular posters. Maybe they are just tired of posting, or maybe they hate to read negative comments about the community they love. In either case, the site has ceased to exist from new posts.

My guess is much of it is due to the nature of the threads. Almost all of it is directed at the RCSC and the question of T33. Other than Riggio, Carole. IC and myself there’s been hardly any commentary. So, here’s the question: Is it because you don’t like seeing the RCSC under fire? Or is it because you don’t understand? Or is it because you just don’t care?

To help you try and get your head around my position, let me just tell you where i am in the matter regarding Sun City. If you think my comments are steeped in anger or resentment, you could not be more wrong. As i type, i am actively engaged in the CC&R review committee for SCHOA, have just rejoined the long range planning committee for the RCSC and next week i am joining a small group of Museum board members who are looking at a long term strategy for what we want the Del Webb Museum to become in the coming years.

There’s nothing that says we always have to agree on topics. What a boring world that would be if that were the case. I would argue, if we fail to be involved, to have opinions and are unwilling to express them, we all lose.

Wow! Over 24 hours and no responses. What does that say? Don't have a real good answer, but I can give my opinion as to why there is so little activity here.

    1. To me, the situation with T33 is a mystery to almost everyone. No one - and I mean no one - has all the answers regarding T33 and its affect on Sun City.
The GM/BOD sent out an email blast telling people to vote for HB2374 saying it was bad. They did not offer any supporting facts or documentation. The fact that
1100 Sun City folks sent emails to the committee tells me that people are lemmings and have no clue as to what T33's impact is. They just decided that if the GM/BOD said to support the bill, they should support it. There has been absolutely no factual rebuttal to the GM/BOD and in fact there is no way for the residents to mount an opposition other than to email the committee and the legislature voicing their opposition.

    2. Even though T33 has been discussed here, very few people have had the courage to ask questions, or voice their opinions. Are they afraid they will be targeted by the GM/BOD? As far as I know, even in Sun City you still have Freedom Of Speech so no one should be afraid to post here.

    3. Complacency - since the residents have given control to the GM/BOD they see no need to get involved and voice their opinion.

    4. With all the talk of T33 on this site there has been no opposition to the GM/BOD. Excuses are great, but they do not get action. Action includes questioning the BOD at the member exchange which has not happened and probably will never happen. The GM/BOD must be pressed to explain their support of HB2374. The only forum I know of is the Member Exchange.
This site has the potential to fire up the residents, but because of fear it will not happen. Just so every one knows, if you do not use your real name as your signature, you are completely anonymous on this site.

The above are just a few of my observations and I'm sure others have more, but are afraid to chime in.

T33 is well understood AFAIK, it's been around for what, 20 years? The condos adhere, right? So it shouldn't be a mystery IMHO. The board of any corporation (the RCSC is a corporation) with a budget the size of the RCSC would be firing people for malfeasance if the corporation was being sued and after a couple of years into litigation they claimed they didn't know what the cost/effect would be if they lose. The auditors would normally make a company acrue for the worst case... that would mean they should have budgets prepared for the contingencies. You get to guess which, but there aren't many choices... either 1)the BOD hasn't a clue what their responsibilities are and they are derelict in their duties, 2)they've been snookered by Jan, or 3)they know but they're playing possum. (My guess is all three... they're clueless to a degree, Jan has lead them down a problematic path, and they think they're playing possum with the members.)

Exceptional comments gang, thanks for jumping in. Good to see a couple of you willing to lay out your thoughts. T33 is complicated but hardly rocket science. Condo associations are covered by the statute and are regularly given legal presentations on what happens if you fail to comply. The simple reality is by making it an unknown, it is far easier for the RCSC to lay claim to it being destructive to our future. Pure crap!

Virtually every age restricted community is governed by it. Nope, they haven't ceased to exist. They haven't lost their age overlay. They haven't been overrun by outside the community owners who regularly come to work out in their gyms, swimming pools and golf courses. They write community documents that work to deal with their issues. They follow the statutes and live by the letter of the law.

Had we been under T33 for the past 10 or 15 years, Sun City would have a vastly different look. Decisions that were made in a vacuum, behind closed doors, would not have been the same. I get it, way easier to just do as you please, and suffer momentary push back from a small vocal group who come across as disgruntled. It will be interesting to see how they shape the twice a month board meeting/work sessions that will now be open to the public. The difference of course is simple, under T33, they wouldn't be able have meetings away from the maddening crowd to decide in advance their direction. What they are proposing is only a small portion of how they would/could operate under Title 33.

I do not find your posts to be negative or angry at all,
I suppose given your choices offered I'd fall into the "don't care" category.
I'd vote for you for RCSC Bod in a flash, but must admit that for me SC is a fine place to bury my head in the sand.
