My husband and I plan to purchase one in the near future. I was just looking at a listing and it said the street legal tabs are purchased through 2022. Does that mean they are still valid even though there is a new owner? And how much does it cost yearly for the tabs? Thanks.

I saw a few listed on next door. I haven't purchased one yet but was wondering how the tabs worked. Thanks.

License plates/tabs stay with the owner in AZ .

You can apply in office or on-line for a plate refund.

Be sure that any cart in consideration is " Street Legal "

Tabs for golf cars, as well as insurance is minimal in Sun City. The last time we bought tabs for one of the golf cars was $95 for 5 years (the cheapest way to buy is for multiple years). There is a caveat on golf car insurance. Your best bet is to bundle it with home owners and car insurance and with an agency that does business locally. We had a friend who just moved here and the price just for golf car insurance with this out of state broker was ludicrous. Ours is bundled and if memory serves me, well less than $100 per year.

There are three primary golf car companies i would recommend: E-Z Go, Yamaha and Club Car; all good carts. The 4th is one i had massive problems with, Columbia. Worst of all, they had no interest in standing behind their product.

Buying used will get you your best price, but be forewarned, many of the sellers of used carts ask of the charts prices; be sure to shop around. If you are looking at a used electric golf car, pay attention to the year of the batteries. If they are old and need to be replaced, dependent on the make of the cart, it could cost you anywhere between $600 to $900 to replace them. Most of the local dealers buy inventory on used carts from courses who lease them and rebuild them from the ground up. Good buys on carts like that is another option. New carts can run in the $10,000+ range while re-fitted 2 year old models would be about half that.

The next option is gas or electric. We've had both. Batteries are expensive, lasting 2 to 4 years depending on use. But then gas isn't cheap either, so they both work out pretty much to be a wash when comparing the cost over a 5 or 10 year period. All in all, using a golf car in Sun City is pure fun, as long as you drive defensively and carefully...unfortunately there are some pretty awful drivers in Sun City...especially on days when garage sales and estate sales are going on.
