I thought it was required most places but I’ve seen some houses in SC without them when I was looking to buy. Maybe they remove them after they are inspected. Pool going in next door to me.
I thought a pool barrier (aka fence) was not required if there were no children under a certain age residing in the house? However, sensibilities and liability would seem to make it wise to have a fenced or walled in back yard just for peace of mind.
Okay....I went straight to the source - Maricopa County Planning & Development and asked the question regarding pool barriers. This is the reply I received regarding the County requirement: All fishponds, spas and other contained bodies of water, either above or below ground level, being greater than 18 inches in depth, and/or wider than eight feet at any two measured points shall require a barrier. So I guess as long as your pool/spa/pond is smaller than the 8 foot measurement there is no pool barrier requirement in Maricopa County.
Am I reading it wrong? If it's greater than 18 inches deep or longer than 8 foot you need a fence. What pool in less than 18 inches deep?
I supposed some water feature ponds, fountains or lavish kiddie pools may fit the 18 inch rule. This code does cover all of Maricopa County but some incorporated cities within the county may have stricter rules.
I used to have a neighbor that would wander into my house, garage, etc. So, I would want a barrier or fence to keep her from hurting herself.
