I know there is another thread regarding this matter, but to me this is one of those teachable moments. I could have written the script for the outcome, but i elected to see what aggie found out. Once it was confirmed it was no longer at Sun Dial i got on the phone to verify what i knew would be the case. Dr. Hiral was moved out of Sun Dial Auditorium because the Democratic Club didn't follow all the rules. Every club gets one sponsored event per year and though it would have been political in nature they were more than entitled to hold this meeting at Sun Dial. So what went wrong? Apparently the club organizers didn't fill out the proper paperwork. There is an application for board approval and that wasn't done. They booked the room without knowing they needed to fill out the application. Over the weekend the proverbial stuff hit the fan as republican residents of Sun City became terrified of Dr. Hiral and the wildly successful campaign she is mounting and started questioning how she could hold a town hall meeting? Monday morning the RCSC found the lack of proper application and approval. Rather than trying to get it, they contacted the Democrats and and said it would have to be moved. I became half-crazed because i knew this would be the case. Most clubs don't know the rules very well and this provided the perfect out. It would have seemed more simple to me to resubmit the application and have the board quickly approve it, but that wasn't done, nor even mentioned. I am angry, because i have sat meekly by as Sun City organizations take every opportunity to promote seated republian's every chance they get. Think not, go to a SCHOA new resident orientation and watch the parade of them getting their free advertising. Wonder why no one complained about that eh?
I thought we still lived in a democracy. Admire her strength. There have been so many roadblocks thrown at her and she continues to "good fight". Hiral the Hero, you go.
Just drove by the new venue, it works but Sun Dial would have been so much better. Kudos to all those whiny sniveling republicans that piled on the RCSC to drive the event out of Sun City. Pure crap. The democratic club had every right to hold that event and the nits and gnats should have been worked out well in advance because that's how we try and function. In the end, it would have been just as easy for the board to give it their blessing as it was to tell them to get out. Anyone who has followed the community history knows the town has always leaned far to the right. They used to love to boast about it. Here's a wake-up call...the community is a shifting demographic and along with those tired of the pompous rhetoric choking us every day of late, the times are a-changing eh?
HEY, Dr. Hiral rocked the place. And now Sun City Grand wants her. Whoever heard of an AZ politician having a town hall.
As i said in another thread, Dr. Hiral was the star of the show. She was impressive, impassioned and clearly there to listen and learn. How rare is that in a politician these days? I went, not intending to talk, but to listen. We taught people early on that 80% of good communications is listening. That said, i never met a mic i didn't love, so i couldn't resist sharing my impressions of what i saw and heard. Simply put, i apologized for the event being shoved out of Sun City. That should never have happened. Our community is better than that, and the net was we (the RCSC) looked like a dictatorship intent on keeping Debbie Lesko in office. If you doubt what i am saying, go to the Lesko home page and look at her list of supporters. Don't bother deleting your names now guys, i have a screen shot of it. What got the crowd excited was this: I mentioned that for the first time in 15 years in AZ, we had a democratic candidate who looked like the real deal and better yet, that could win the race. The crowd loved it and when i thanked her for stepping up, the standing ovation was for her, most assuredly not me. And so i am perfectly clear, she deserved every hoot, holler and clap they gave. By the way, anyone disappointed by the RCSC board and their poor decision to throw the democratic club out of Sun City for this event, you should be aware next Monday night, April 9 at the Lakeview social hall at 6 pm is a board/member exchange. That's where we get the chance to share our thoughts on all things Sun City. I will be there and i have every intention of letting them know exactly how i felt about their choice to kick a standing club out of the community.
I find it rather comical that Lesko's big claim to fame is allowing golf carts to drive curbside. Is that it? Every where I read about her that is what it says. You can say she was against Epcor consolidation but they did it so either she didn't have any influence or she didn't try much. The only way she'll win is because she's an R. Sad for that. Dr. Hiral is a more intelligent & qualified individual. That's obvious.
I do really like the professionalism and the calming approach Dr. Hiral is taking in this election. Too bad some of those on the right aren't embracing that kind of mentality. I awoke this morning with my sign for her being stuck with the trash for collection. Classy. You always can tell when you are getting to people when they act immaturely. As i said at the meeting the other night, republican's have long acted as if they are the only party in town. Their arrogance is stifling and the reality is when one party controls everything, we all suffer for it. This country was built on multiple ideologies. If anything, having more parties than two may well be the best thing that could happen in the long run. Those on the far right fringe and the far left fringe would be well served to understand the vast majority of us fall more in the middle of it all. That is why Dr. Hial's campaign is gaining steam. Politician's owned and operated by the Koch brothers are about as far from the middle as you can get.
Besides the above mentioned positive proactive issues, Debbie Lesko spearheaded/sponsored Pension Reform. It was a big issue that brought both sides together. see attached http://www.retirementsecurityinitia..._the_week_arizona_state_senator_debbie_lesko# and here is another big issue "surprise hospital bills" , a bill she sponsored as a direct result of problem a Sun City Resident had. see attached https://www.azcentral.com/story/new...umers-relief-surprise-doctor-bills/100852998/ There are many more important issues. Debbie Lesko is experienced and has done a lot of good and I will not do anymore spoon feeding. It is disappointing to see folks bashing her when she has stood in the gap for many. She is able to do the work in the United States Congress for CD8 because she is proven. I will be voting for Debbie.
I suspect most of the"Lesko bashing" stems from her admitted ties to the Koch brothers and alec. Think of it in these terms Ida; how do you feel about George Soros? I don't need an answer, it 's purely for comparative purposes. And sadly Debbie should be just fine, there's far more registered republicans than democrats in district 8. Although, there is a boatload of independents and my guess is Dr. Hiral will appeal to a good number of them. Throw in the trump effect and just maybe this race will be closer than anyone expects. My real angst is in how anyone could crawl out of bed on a gorgeous weekend morning and start whining to the general manager about a sanctioned club having an event in a matter of days and trying to insure it gets moved. Seems down right un-American. i guess some folks are bigger supporters of the second amendment than the first eh? Seriously, i just cannot fathom how that could or would happen. So i am clear as this unfolds, i have no problem with board members or RCSC staff supporting one party/candidate or the other. In fact, i would be disappointed if they weren't involved. Where i get crazed is when they use their authority to try and ruin a sanctioned clubs most successful event ever in its existence. But we can talk more about that come the Monday night member exchange. Wrapped in that whole discourse Ida is a question, "spoon feeding" free btw; how do you feel about folks whining and moaning to subvert a clubs rights?
Interesting how Trump voters wanted an outsider for president but need a proven candidate for other positions. The picture you paint, BP, is disturbing. If the area-dominate party is so confident their party will win, why trash your yard sign and move the venue? Whiners indeed. I look forward to seeing you stand up for it and simultaneously sorry you need to waste your time to do it. They should be ashamed.
I don't like candidate bashing and don't think that is really going on here. The problem is that Debbie Lesko has been a public figure with a voting record and Dr. Hiral is running on the direction she wants to vote on issues. We can only hope that she will follow through on her promises. My vote as an Independent will go to Dr. Hiral but unfortunately it will be cancelled out by my better half. This is the reason we have no signs in our yard! Voting on the 24th is still the way to go.
Bummer on your friend E, but the one thing that is a given; when you move here at a young age, you watch friends die on a regular basis. We all would be better off if we left politics off the site, just isn't conducive to building a sense of community. The problem i suspect is we all have become frustrated with the state of politics and what has happened in the last 2 years. It is beyond imagination. I would suggest we use the Non-Sun City Related thread immediately below this one for our political discourse. That way we don't pollute the Sun City thread with our frustrations.
But this eventual discussion wasn’t just one of politics per se, it was of a club being forced to move. And the mention of your sign getting trashed. I don’t think that belongs on a different area. People can read a title heading and ignore it.
Some one said look at Lesko, s voting record. I did. And everyone should examine it. Her votes suggested she is not in line with my values.
