This should read "Politics & religion", but I can't figure out how to edit the thread title.
Elections 1410.jpg Someone I was reading recently hypothesized that because Americans are taught at an early age to not talk about religion and/or politics they never really develop the ability to do either without quickly being reduced to either profanity or violence. Or both. . So I am going to test the waters with a little political talk. As probably everyone has noticed the election season is upon us early this year, sort of like Christmas in August, because of the special election to fill the vacated Trent Franks AZ 8th District seat in the House. The Washington D.C. House that is. So of particular note, since this is considered to be a safe Republican seat, is the Republican primary. One of the candidate has posted, all over the place, signs announcing him as being endorsed by Trent Franks and Joe Arpaio. That is former Congressman Franks who resigned after learning that he was to be investigated for sexual harassment and misconduct and Joe Arpaio who now has a rap sheet longer than many of the folks he profiled. Is this really a good tactic to appeal to Sun City voters?

If you make a title mistake you live with it...non-editable. I was surprised on one of my SC visits to see these signs all over. They have never been allowed in places I've lived except on your own property. I don't appreciate these signs on public property. But I know that's not your question.

It was not my question but I agree with your assessment. I notice that you did not vote on my question, which is understandable because I didn't either. But now, having called myself out, will vote. I also think (opinion) that the conservative point of view on private use of public property is that this sort of thing should not be allowed, but these folks are willing to put that aside when there is an advantage to be had.

I didn’t vote on this one because I’m not a registered voter in AZ. And any thought I do have on the subject borders on hostility. I used to be able to discuss politics without hostility but not since the narcissistic clown ran and was elected. I was never fond of the GOP but this time it is something quite different.

A few of us here did engaged in political discussions last year. But they were mostly hostile and short lived. Many people read here but few post. Posters come and go. Lately it’s been sparse. Your polls are something new.

I did just discover the site and have opinions on a variety of subjects. Actually an opinion on EVERY subject. So I decided to try and kick-start some activity here. So far I can't claim to be a huge success, but I am happy with what is going on. I too am not an AZ voter but that does not stop me from much except signing petitions that require it.

Probably not your vault. There’s been a lull on this site compared to prior years. You may inspire something yet.

If I don't it will not be because of lack of trying.

I'm curious why voters would want Arpaio for senator ( I heard he's running) when he cost AZ taxpayers 70 million in lawsuits by refusing to follow the law. Does he stand a chance...do people really like him?

That is what I was attempting to get at with my question. I rather like the transgender democrat Brianna Westbrook

Perhaps difficult voting for some who will either need to choose a Hispanic or a transgender person. I'm guessing they vote along color lines...blue or red. Someone in SC started an Facebook page for Westbrook.

Sun City is RED throughout, and it will start to show up on front lawns soon enough. You will see a huge amount of support for Arpaio, despite everything he has done and been accused of. Faux News makes sure to regurgitate nothing is ever the GOP's fault, and is always Obama's or Clinton's fault, despite the truth to the contrary. Me, I will sit back and watch, as this is going to end up being a contentious and divisive run this year. Lots of mud slinging and name calling, and depending on who has the best PAC will come out on top. Just my two cents worth. This should light up a few people, ya think?

This tactic will work for the masses in Sun City but not for me! What a joke. Looking for the starting point for the Sun City Women's March today. Anybody know where it is? Will I be out there by myself?o_O

Happy to hear SC is having one. I’d be there... If I were there.

Didn't know they had a starting point in Sun City. I would have been out there, cane and all. Need to get our voices heard, one way or another.

I was just kidding about a Sun City march. Going in to Phoenix to join the group was not an option. I just walked around the block with a big black cloud of thoughts over my head! Hope all the marchers show up at the polls in November. Should be interesting.

I notice that the most recent batch of Montenrgro signs have dropped the Sheriff and added Ted Cruz, whose most notable action (opinion) as a senator was to introduce S.2415, a bill to amend the Federal Election Campaign Act of 1971 to eliminate all limits on direct campaign contributions to candidates for public office. Guess we can all guess where Montenegro stands on the Dark Money issue.
