For those unfamiliar with the history of the newspaper community in Sun City AZ, there's been two papers serving us. The Daily News Sun has been a daily paper for years while the Independent has been a weekly. Both are solid community papers with strong ties with a good handle on what goes on. Like all newspapers, both struggle with circulation, though the Independent being free reaches far more doorsteps. The Daily News Sun has always been more genteel in it's coverage of the RCSC while the Independent has often asked the harder questions of the management and elected officers (not always at the pleasure of those queried). The Independent has always appeared to be on a better financial footing as the Daily News Sun has gone though a dozen notable change in my 15 years of living here. Imagine my surprise when i awoke this morning and clicked on Yourwestvalley only to find Independent Media Inc. has purchased the entire family of West Valley Daily News papers. As in all acquisitions, only time will tell what that will mean for the community and for the RCSC eh?
Not sure these days fix. There is no studio and i don't think the station exists anymore. There's a cool history of their golden years at the museum, and the tower itself is impressive. Sun City west residents began an effort to start their own station about 3 years back but the last i heard were having equipment issues.
Wouldn't it be something if Grand, West, Original Sun City worked together on setting up a radio station?
"she's got the tower, she's got the power" *(from a Bob Segar song written for Rosalie Trombley at CKLW..... Maybe it could operate out of the Chinese Restaurant....
