...the history and politics of the Original Sun City?

The first 10 years was done last semester by Ben Roloff. Very interesting.

Bummer, I was stuck behind a desk in Seattle last year.

Thanks for the inquiry J/V, and g47 is spot on. Ben and i are good friends and i have spent countless hours following his exploits while drinking coffee at the local Starbucks. The past year and half he has been immersed in microfiche at the Arizona State Archives reading newspapers from Sun City (1960-1970). In fact he's been there twice this week looking for material for his coming Life Long Learning program for the fall season.

Ben's classes are really good; as a retired teacher, he has the ability to stay on point on not wander about aimlessly. There's another presenter there, Edson Allen (currently the president of the Del Webb Sun Cities Museum) who does a great job as well. If you get a chance, take anything he offers.

Ben is amazing. I have never talked to him without learning something new. I have taken several of Ed Allen's classes. Always interesting.

It's too bad that so many people here don't even know we have Lifelong Learning let alone sign up for classes. There is everything from fun classes on 50's TV to more involved classes on Russian History. There really is something for everyone.

$20 for unlimited classes...a bargain too.

Life Long Learning is a great bargain and fun to be a part of. All of which gives me an opportunity to crawl up on my soap box. Continuing education is wildly popular in age restricted communities and it will continue to be. Sun City is no exception, and there-in is the rub. The LLL club has a problem, and it's not their fault.

Space is an issue and has been since they broke off from Osher Life Long Learning through Arizona State. The club has grown every year and getting into some classes has been difficult. The good news is the fall session is less crowded than the winter one. If you want to get into some winter classes, get to their annual meeting early.

All of which leads me to the point where the RCSC need explore buying the Lakes Club. Imagine a dozen dedicated classrooms for LLL...imagine.

How about some classes at that new location on Grand?

Won't be happening anytime soon peg, not there anyway. The plan is for an ad hoc long range planning committee to study the location and make recommendations to the board on how to best use that site. If you have driven around the old Chinese restaurant, you should, the parking lot is enormous.

Too bad this is just a committee to look at this site only, everything is connected in one way or another and making decisions in a vacuum is a fools game. A true long range plan works in concert with the needs of the community and isn't just a plan to throw money at stuff when a handful of people complain of their needs or wants.

But then, what do i know about it all eh?

    Get informed BP*:friendly_wink:*

You need to start a revolution (I can't....yet), grassroots no more "because we have always done it this way" platform.
