This coming Saturday is the RCSC annual membership meeting and should be interesting to both new and seasoned Sun City residents. It used to be an all day ordeal that drained even the most resolute, but now the 3 hour program is much more manageable. It runs from 9 am to noon and i suspect they'll have coffee and treats before hand, typically opening the doors at 8 am. It is at the Sun Dial auditorium.

Lots of good information will be had and of course the floor will be open for comments and questions from those attending. Though the highlight from my vantage point will be the 12 page magazine entitled The Best Is Yet To Come. This is the third year i have had the honor of writing the copy for it and i think most folks will find it quite entertaining.

Later this week i'll post a teaser from it to help stimulate your interest in attending this event.

Hope to see you all there.

Without further ado, the first paragraphs from page 1 of...

Sun City 1960-2016 The Best Is Yet to Come!

The past two years, we have looked at the best of Sun City AZ solely through the lens of improvements made during that calendar year. In this issue, we are approaching it from a very different perspective.

The vast majority of residents in Sun City AZ will tell you it is the best age restricted community in the country. Obviously that is a purely subjective opinion and one we have no interest in debating.

Rather, we would like to take this magazine and through words and pictures tell you the story why near on 40,000 residents feel so strongly about the place they call home.

    More to follow.

In my nearly 9 years living in Sun City, I have yet to hear someone say anything negative about it.
Working at the SC Visitor Center, I often hear people talk about visiting other retirement communities and saying SC seems to be the best. Both price wise and the most amenities.

I've heard an occasional complainer peg, Sun City isn't for everyone. For the vast majority of folks finding Sun City, they quickly come to understand just how special it is. Which is exactly why we did the magazine, The Best Is Yet To Come. It is heavy on history, with both an eye on our past and the amazing evolution that has followed.

The simple truth is Sun City is different because of the people; how we were built and why we have succeeded. Our infrastructure is predicated on the belief that when we move here we become stakeholders in our future. While the things going on outside our walls are almost beyond comprehension, those things near and dear to our hearts can all be accessed and improved on by just becoming involved.

Yesterday i had the pleasure of sitting in on my friend Ben's presentation at the Life Long Learning club. It was the first 10 years of Sun City's growth through the eye's of the two local papers (found at the state archives). It was brilliant to recall those tumultuous times where both the residents and the company were struggling to find the "right way" to move forward.

Ultimately, through all of the strife, they found the path. As they reached the 1970's, the company and the community were in sync and growth was over-the-top successful. When looking back, it's easy to see why. In spite of set-backs, failures and heartaches, no-one quit or gave up. The people living here were far too resilient. Now some 56 years after the first shovel of dirt was lifted on Sun City we are better than ever and coming to understand there are no limits to just how much better we can become.

That theme is the essence of the magazine and the community...no matter the issues, challenges or roadblocks the people living here worked together to make it a better place to live.

How does it get any better than that?

    Page 1 in it's entirety:

Sun City 1960-2016 The Best Is Yet to Come!

The past two years, we have looked at the best of Sun City AZ solely through the lens of improvements made during that calendar year. In this issue, we are approaching it from a very different perspective.

The vast majority of residents in Sun City AZ will tell you it is the best age restricted community in the country. Obviously that is a purely subjective opinion and one we have no interest in debating.

Rather, we would like to take this magazine and through words and pictures tell you the story why near on 40,000 residents feel so strongly about the place they call home.

Suffice to say, it is no easy task trying to tell the Sun City AZ story in a brief 16-page summary. The myriad of reasons people love the community is found in so many varied ways in so many differing choices; it is near on impossible.

We will be trying to showcase some of them, knowing full well, we have barely scratched the surface. Any good story teller knows, the best way to engage readers, is to touch their hearts; make them feel the joy of why we live here.

We will attempt to do just that, as we take you on a journey from the beginning to the present. We know hundreds of thousands of residents have gone into the making of Sun City. Their stamp is visible each step of the way.

Knowing the history of Sun City AZ is critical to realizing its potential. In these next 16 pages, you will begin to understand why and how we became what we are today…one of the best places to live in the United Sates and just maybe the world.

    Enjoy.

Be sure and stop by the RCSC meeting this Saturday from 9 am till noon...because the best is yet to come.

You did a great job on "The Best Is Yet To Come." I'm passing my copy around to the neighbors that couldn't attend.

Thanks for the shout out, even though I have been "quite". *Was caring for my Aunt for many years, but she passed in December. Taking care of her since leaving the board was a full time job, hence the dropping out of sight. Since her passing, I have been adjusting to a new way of life.*

I do read the posts quite often, and even though I have not taken the time to reply or respond, it does my heart good to see the care and interest still highly vested in our community. We are so lucky to live in a place as ideal as Sun City, and it is through this community and its activities that I will thrive and rediscover a life of giving and awareness. Keep up your great work Bill, it means so much to this community and to people like me who look for your posts of wisdom and wit. Carole*

Hay Carole good to see you moving on. Sorry about your Aunt, sometimes it's just a blessing eh?

Too funny on the "quite." Been playing a lot of Master of Words and it's all about finding words in a short time and those "q's" have nice point totals. Quite, quiet, and quiz are quick to punch in and i seldom pay attention to which one i enter.

Tough life, but someone has to do it.

Take care and don't be a stranger.
